  • She doesn't find anything culturally Japanese cute. Took me a bit to clue in! She has a nice kimono back home, can't get her to have her kids send it over. 🤷🏻

No idea about traditional Filipino clothing. That's a damned fine idea! As of now, women over there are stuck in the 80s, which is cute in itself. I thought it was just her that wore designer clothes with giant branding. Nope. She had me watch some videos to see what people were like over there. ALL the girls sporting giant GUESS logos.

  • All questions I have. She's very closed mouth and I don't wish to pry on what is obviously a touchy subject.

In any case, it has zero effect in the real world. She would never breathe a word of hate or act racist towards a Japanese person. (And they don't really exist around here.)

  • Which is why I'll once again stump for legal insurance. $26/mo. is made up for with a call or two a year, and knowing your rights, or at least your options, in this world is gold. The rich are rich and the poor are poor largely due to legal access.

  • Nope, the signals will attenuate into noise pretty quickly. LOL, unless they're using a quasar to communicate.

I feel like people usually miss this bit: Electromagnetic signals, light, etc., decrease by the inverse square law. Here's a pic that illustrates better than I can write it out. Double the distance from the source, signal drops to 1/4 strength, move out the same distance again, all ya got is 1/9 strength. tldr: The signal strength drops fast.

After a very short distance, cosmically speaking, the signal becomes indistinguishable from universal background radiation and no magic science fiction can filter out a clean copy.

  • As a teen I beat my fear of girls but realizing they're pretty much just like guys. Instead of treating them like untouchable angels, I started talking to them just like I would a guy friend. Well, mostly, not so crudely. OTOH, one major thing that made me realize they're the same is overhearing, or being included, in female groups and finding out they talk nasty as fuck!

And guess what? Women respond to that. And the prettier they are, the response is even better! They're so used to guys kissing their ass, trying to impress, etc., that a guy talking to them like a normal human being is refreshing.

And if you see that girl again, wave her down and say, "I'm sorry, I'm really shy and hope I didn't hurt your feelings."

  • OP didn't touch on a major issue for PhD holders: over qualification. I'm a good example, even not having earned a degree. Can't get a low-level IT job because my experience is too much. Nobody wants to hire somebody that's able and likely to jump ship at the first opportunity.
