I'm from a small town of 4,000 people in Northeast Texas and ...in the late 90s...
Had to finish high school out of church because a kid literally burned down the school. He got expelled and on his way out the door he said I'm going to burn this m*********** to the ground and he did.
Person I went to school with got strung out on meth and decided to murder three gas station attendants.
So yeah the entire thing is stupid. As if protest and crime are new concepts due to a new world order brought about by liberalism.
These are serious issues no doubt but when I see all the memes about this song in particular all I can think about, " The sky is falling Chicken Little" or "if these kids could read they'd be angry" or "it's funny until it happens to me"
Can someone translate this for us morons? I got confused when I read about breeding cats so ....
The ERC-721 standard enabled an explosion of non-fungible token applications. Some notable use cases have included breedable cats, generative artwork, and exchange liquidity positions.
I've found my people. Think I'll go indulge in a brick of cheddar right now. The concrete that I have to pass tomorrow will be .. well .. tomorrow's problem.
I know we're not supposed to judge and this is meant to be a community but ... I draw the line at olive hate. They're so damn delicious. Are you even human?
The game has LAN support as well as steam cloud. While it's designed for single it handles multiplayer extremely well. The only annoyance I've ran into is that only one person can interact with a merchant at a time.
You're right but we also didn't go drown them in the Hudson. The southern border can be a savage place. I'll never forget stepping out of the car during a cross-country trip and immediately losing my breath due to the heat.
I wish we were ready for another Carl Sagan. If we are then I'm waiting to be awed.
A casual post on the interwebs about losing/gaining communication with an object that uses less power than my NVIDIA 2080 beyond the gravitational pull of our Sun.
Lawl. Fuck that. Crazy. People looking for a miracle well just read the fucking article. Mankind can do amazing things when we just put our minds to it.
(Pre-edit: I was thinking I should use the ever wise internet to verify claims about gravitational pull. I'm 100% wrong but the point still stands. Damn it we can do anything if we just agree and put our minds to it. [From: NASA Despite the probe entering interstellar space, Voyager 2, along with Voyager 1, have not left the solar system and won't for quite a while, NASA said. The space agency said Voyager 2 will leave the Oort Cloud, "a collection of small objects that are still under the influence of the Sun’s gravity," in approximately 30,000 years, so it is still being influenced by the Sun's gravity to some extent.])
Sorry a kid died because their parents were 'breaking the law'
How did a kid manage to make it to the border
Nobody accused Abbott of being a good person
Death traps. Roll a DC 15 constitution save.
Remember when there was a time that the president of the United States characterized the place we live as, "a shining beacon on a hill" and "bring us your tired, your weary, your broken masses" (sic) ...
The USA, despite your opinion, remains one of the most wealthy, prominent, and aspirational places to be (or arguably has ever existed) ... you can choose one of two paths ...
You can feel empathy for those that suffer and try to find a way by any means or you can say fuck 'em.
Choose empathy. We need a more effective, rational border policy. I'm not all rainbows and sunshine. One thing that needs to happen is an amendment to the constitution. Just because you're here and pump babies out doesn't make xyz a citizen. That is a supremely archaic provision of the constitution that needs amendment. It's no small part as to why some people risk their lives just to get here.
Ultimately people want to improve their station in life and we should not begrudge them for doing so. Improving one's station is what we all wish for. We need to put pressure on our politicians to do things to IMPROVE the situation because the status quo is not only immoral but impractical.
Troll farms wouldn't be a thing if they weren't effective. Social media has poisoned a lot of minds. I am in my mid-40s and grew up in NE Texas which is part of the "Deep South" (assign to that what you will) and in my lifetime I've seen things that would just not be possible if it were not for the internet.
"Back in my day..."
Reading the newspaper was more than sufficient.
There were no (edit: few and/or less easily manifest beyond a 'google search') collective hive minds and echo chambers so you had to actually express and own an opinion.
I was taught that "this is what Science tells us how God put into motion the universe"
We didn't need concealed or open carry to feel safe.
I'm not really that old. I honestly think most of this crap is 9/11. The terrorists actually won. Fear. There is a culture of fear pervading the USA and international troll farms took root and we continue to deal with the fallout today. Not to get too deep into the weeds .. dwindling middle class but .. who gives a shit .. capitalism. When you can't provide for your family on a base wage .. shit is going to go sideways.
I think about, "behold, man" when anyone mentions Diogenes.
According to Diogenes Laërtius’ third-century Lives and Opinions of the Eminent Philosophers, Plato was applauded for his definition of man as a featherless biped, so Diogenes the Cynic “plucked the feathers from a cock, brought it to Plato’s school, and said, ‘Here is Plato’s man.’ ” When asked about the origin of his epithet, cynic deriving from the Greek word for dog, Diogenes replied that it was given to him because he “fawns upon those who give him anything and barks at those who give him nothing.”
Came here to say this and glad someone else mentioned it. You first need to focus on yourself so a simple outdoor activity such as walking, cycling, hiking , etc and then slow introduction to social settings and tabletop d&d is a fantastic forum for that. There are tons of online games (ie roll20) that you can look into if you have anxiety when meeting people in person.
I'm here for the same reason. RIF finally stopped working and I found Sync. Slowly but surely I'm finding communities that interest me but I'm not sure how to setup "a feed" just yet. I'm not going back to Reddit (it's literally becoming a bot and self promotion farm) so I hope to find positive ways to contribute here.
The entire discussion around " small town" is bs
