I honestly don't remember why we ruled out liberapay when we originally set up donations, and I don't think anyone else does either. Opencollective wasn't a good fit because they didn't have any good fiscal hosts in Canada, but I don't see any obvious issues with liberapay.

We can take another look at this I think, but we've all been pretty busy lately so might take us a bit.
