  • Okay okay, now add the egotistical jerk trait and reevaluate the scenario?

You forget that it was an impulse offer, and he thought that most people that work at the company did not deserve to work there. He grossl overestimated how many new slave devs would be willing to replace the devs he fired. Experienced devs still get good pay and offers they don't need to grind for cheap for Elon.

  • Now everyone wants to pull their content and put up their own shitty service with barely functional controls. They fought against progress until progress proved profitable, and now they want the whole pie.

I'm pretty sure they were happy with the cable arrangement - you wanted one channel but you had to pay for everyone because it was bundled together. Now they all have to compete to get paid. They're forced into the streaming business because streaming is killing cable and they don't want to let the streaming service hold the money. If they price reasonably it would still be acceptable.

  • My experience is different, the response I get is not perfect but it's good enough to be a start for any decent dev to refactor and build upon with lesser effort than from scratch. Maybe it depends on what language or framework you're asking for.

  • Save an image - it's either in Downloads or inside some folder in DCIM or Pictures or some random folder in root - or if you're super lucky - inside some random folder in the app's data directory.

  • It won't be a change no one notices though. Even non-savvy people who use ad-blockers are obviously going to notice that the internet suddenly became a significantly terrible experience.

  • Sure, you're not wrong. But a ton of genuine users are simply checking out what this Lemmy thing is at this stage, and asking them to elaborate why they want to be here, even if in a few lines, is going to turn them away. Instances should be allowed to enforce this if they want, I just think there should be a way for users to quickly find a less restrictive instance. This is what turned me away from Lemmy in my early attempt to use it - I just wanted to check it out on whim and was told there's a manual approval.

I don't even agree that this is a good way to keep out bad bots. We already have farms where you just hire someone in a country with cheap labor to just create accounts all day.

  • Aahh please write an essay about why you'd like to join our server and why you chose your username. Who tf wants to go through a casting couch for an app you'll use while taking a dump?

  • Historical and political reasons too. USA keeps arming Pakistan with modern weapons, and they have a single target to use them on. It would be stupid of India to put all it's weight behind US if that's a one-sided affair. In an ideal world everyone would side with what is moral, unfortunately we don't live in that world.
