  • OMG I did the same thing too... but the funny/sad thing was that I started doing those "typical reddit" comments that weren't really insightful but got lots of upvotes. Then when I came here to Lemmy I had to stop myself from making those kinds of comments.

  • Hey, unironically you should try one of those private social networks where it's all just AI bots and you're the only human. I mean, I hope you stay here too but it might help you to have a place where you can say things without human judgment but you still get some kind of feedback.

  • Did they give us what we wanted? Nope. The protests happen all the time, but name one instance when it actually worked.

The example I linked describes how a peaceful protest convinced the Pennsylvania Assembly to vote for American independence.

Respectfully, I think you are arguing in bad faith.

  • The one I was at, the speakers were talking about the various organizations to join to help make a change. Several groups were talking one-on-one and handing out flyers to contact for "next steps."

I personally signed up with Indivisible to demand our congressional representatives do everything they can to slow down Trump. But I also got the names of a couple other organizations if I didn't think that was enough.

  • "Gee Elon, I sure am sorry for that! I'll get it taken down right away! Those darn Snoos sometimes get a little crazy... By the way, you think next time you and Zuck and Bezos get together you could give me a call? Hello? ... Hello? Awwww..." -Spez, probably

  • Some more media mentions, mostly local and brief:

    edit:

    BONUS:

  • I'm not a lawyer, but I believe in most cases you're free to demonstrate without a permit, see here: https://www.aclu.org/know-your-rights/protesters-rights I believe if, for example, you exceed the area's capacity the police are supposed to give an order to disperse and then give you time to disperse.

However it's better to get a permit, agreed. And the police may not do what they're "supposed" to do.

  • spin off their own political party

I think the idea behind organizations like the Democratic Socialists of America and the Working Families Party is to have party-like organizations that work within the Democratic party so they don't act as "spoilers" given the 2-party system. (I could be wrong about that tho...)

  • Comment-OP has a great idea there; try ventilating the place with you out of the room, then go in there and try to find the source of the smell. i.e. put your nose up against the wall, the drain, the floor, the vent, etc to see where it's strongest. I'm guessing either the drain/sink or the walls.
