  • Having launch issues seems to be the norm nowadays.I do lot think anyone expects complex software to be bug free.
But the response and speed of fixing issues from arrow head are very good, and an example for others to follow.

Dedicated servers are awesome tho. And all great games have that. Makes the game live forever if the community cares enough. Cnc renegade and enemy territory still have players.

  • Hosted my own xmpp server back when you could talk to facebook messenger and google chat users via federation. But when they closed their walled garden there were nobody to talk to so i stopped it.

Now with matrix i have again a homeserver. Bridged to messenger, google what the new thing is called, slack, and a few others.

  • Debian stable on servers. Debian testing on the daily driver.
Gives you a rock solid server, that will pull absolutly no suprises.
And your daily driver gives you a playground for what comes in the next upgrade.

  • If you fell on your face before the camera phone. Your 2 friends laughed at you. Nowadays the whole school laughes at the video of you for a week or more. I am not at all suprised that young people are risk avoidant. I feel so very priveleged that I grew up in the slim timeframe while the internet was new and exciting and made modem warbling noises. And not now in the time when we are permanently connected, and absolutly everything on the internet is trying to exploit you, and have a team of psycoanalysts to make it most effective on you.

  • Like the exact same thing can not happen in a closed source codebase. It probably does daily. Since closed codebases the due dilligence and reviews cost money, and nobody can see the state. They are intentionally neglected.
Open source nor closed source is immune to the 5$ wrench hack

  • I do not know what you did to debian to make steam not work. Since that have been flawless on my debian for half a decade. And ocasionally glitchy the half decade before that.

Debian +KDE is just the best i can get. But may be just me beeing used.

  • Xfree86 was sonetimes a mess. And i did not have a browser anymore when it refused to start. So man pages only.

I once rm -rf all the db files of a running database: Recovered the files via inodes since they were all still open on the running database, that was a mess.

  • Circle of money is incredibly important. People get money they spend it, improving their lives.
Goverment spend money building and maintaining infrastructure, and in normal countires education and healthcare.
Companies get money (pay less tax) they give most of it to shareholders to hoard. Who sits on a bigger and bigger pile of societys life blood, draining it to a lifeless husk. Parasites pure and simple.
