  • Warframe.

If youre just wanting one where you leave it alone for thousands of hours: cookie clicker or any of the hundreds of idle games (remember that the steam deck and OLED monitors/TVs exist).

I recall as a kid leaving sonic adventure 2 on overnight and smash Bros melee to cook down the timer to unlock characters.

  • No, you just desperately want to be "right" and to champion OLED as the end-all technology just because you really like it.

I get why people like it. A fresh new OLED panel looks really pretty, but people need to stop being in denial about its flaws.

A gameboy screen looks as good today as it did 30 years ago. An OLED screen has no hope of lasting that long. Ghosting or no ghosting. And, ghosting is an actually-solved problem.

  • No, you can have the game full screened, you can have friends showing at the bottom, or you can focus a friends screen as the big one.

  • Every fromsoft game can be played offline and even has a mode or a method to do so.

If you want a truly singleplayer fromsoft game, go play armored core.

  • This feels like the same energy as when people say "Works on my machine!" in a thread where someone else is asking for help with an issue. Dismissive and does not contribute to the conversation aside from an attempt at cementing the poster's opposition to the idea that there may actually be problems with the technology they're in love with.

  • Charge N Chuck is from Super Mario World on the SNES and is far from generic.

  • Well no, we are going from first to like... seventh gen Tegra, which comes with a whole slew of additional hardware support. They are likely going to be hitting 120fps using DLSS, which is both neat and really sad, plus the higher performance video encode/decode for their DiscordGroupChat implementation.

HDR and 1080p on the device's screen itself are big improvements. A lot of people will bellyache about no OLED but LCD tech in general has gotten pretty good and will last 30+ years instead of 10-at-best.

Most of the external hardware changes seem superficial, but things like the dual USB C and the larger joysticks (which hopefully means they won't drift) should be noticeable quality of life enhancements.

  • Okay, but burn-in DOES happen with normal use on OLEDs (literally have 2, almost 3 screens with it under normal daily use, not leaving it on for prolonged periods)

  • Do you know what you can leave on a static screen for hours and hours without damage?

    An LCD screen.

Not to say that I do that, but many softwares and games have static UI and HUD elements, like healthbars and notifications.

  • Im aware of ghosting, but every LCD device I currently own, each with thousands of hours of use, do not have this issue, whereas both my pixel 2xl and my pixel 6 do, with some faint hints on my OLED Steam Deck (I tried to give OLED a third chance). My wife's name is permanently etched into the top of my 2xl, and my 6 has extreme color fading from where the notification bar is.

  • An oled would have been an instant no-buy from me. I like my devices to actually last.

Inb4 "muh modern OLEDs last a long time, its a fixed problem!" - No it isn't. They last a bit longer than before, but I literally have burn in on a modern OLED that has the "fixes" right now and it drives me nuts.

  • I hope he can eventually find it in him to change back.

  • Sure, again you are probably right that they should be shut down and isolated.

But does it help you emotionally or logically in any way to understand that in the past when an American ignorantly made something like that, or when another American saw something like that, they aren't thinking "long live Putin, we love mother Russia" but instead probably the exact opposite? Like a weird anti-Russia Russian propaganda campaign.

I imagine it probably feels a little twisted for you to see it that way, but consider it for a bit before responding.

  • I think you dont understand the cultural nuances going on here. I am personally not a fan of it, but here in the United States before the war started and Russia became universally hated, Russia was seen as "generic bad guy." Most americans, myself included, are woefully undereducated on what actually happened throughout Russian history and in Russian culture, so we take what little we see projected over here and internalize it with some creative liberties.

There is a lot of romanticizing of when the people of Russia rose up to overthrow "the bourgeoisie," as we have a soft spot for symbols of freedom, the gaining of freedom, and "sticking it to The Man."

The scene of the hammer being thrown at a TV to smash "The Man" talking was used in a(n in)famous Apple ad back in the 1980s:

Using a Cyrillic block-lettering style font but with English letters and a red background was even used by AMD with a tagline of "Radeon Rebellion":

It was historically not abnormal for Americans to steal this imagery for marketing purposes. It's literally what we do 'best.' We take the flavor of other cultures and use them to meet whatever end we are trying to accomplish. Now, that's not to say that if someone launched a new product today that it would be accepted. Anyone doing that now would likely be crucified, or at least their product would fail.

But with the MIGSwitch, it was created before the recent atrocities, and the Russian symbolism is still borrowing/stealing from that "overthrow The Man" symbolism and not the "fuck you we take what we want, fuck the livelihood of your people" symbolism. In this case, Nintendo is "the bourgeoisie" with their draconian abuse of the law and their army of lawyers, and the MIGSwitch is "seizing the means of production," so to speak. At least, that's how the marketing is posturing itself.

Should the creator rework the brand image? Probably, absolutely. Are they going to put in the extra effort to do so when the product itself is already likely to get them blasted from space by Nintendo's low orbital ion canon? Highly unlikely. The product fab line is already made and is printing him money. It always comes down to money.

  • What you are saying is true, but it negates nothing I've said, and you dont need to go on a manhunt after me because i used poor word choice. I'm on Ukraine's side, but its sad that I even have to explain that to you.

  • I was waiting for someone to say that.

I like that Mate is a thing, but like I said, I'm looking for something thats based on it but as if its had the same 20 years of enhancements everything else got.

The closest thing to that I've found is quite literally KDE. So I use KDE.
