Hamas releasing all hostages in exchange for a cease-fire.
But they won’t. The PR bonanza — successful, by the sound of apparently ~99% of this community — at the expense of civilian innocents has been too good to stop anything, yet.
It seems to me that the long experiment playing out may include simply waiting to see if there is a critical mass threshold to be reached (ie, of this LLM “simply repeating what everyone agrees on” idea) that allows the process to evolve into something closer to “thinking.”
I’m sure I don’t know enough about LLMs, but as others others here are pointing out, this seeming regurgitation of the already-known does seem to provide the foundation or potential for generating hypotheses and/or “new” ideas.
I work (part time/retired) for a nonprofit that coordinates and connects volunteer tutors with kids experiencing homelessness.
Never occurred to me (before I signed on) that kids in shelters or on the streets are still going to school while having to deal with no consistent “home” to do homework, irregular/unreliable sleep schedules, absent or overwhelmed parents, etc. Most Volunteer Tutors become important positive role models and a reliably supportive, adult presence in their lives, and the value is immeasurable.
I mostly help the org with marketing material — including editing videos with heartfelt testimonials and Thank-You messages from students — and I swear, most of the time I can barely hold it together to get the work done!
From day one, the focus and sensibilities have all been on making things that are intuitive, useful, and pleasing to the eye. Things that feel, “engineered by designers,” instead of “designed by engineers.”
Hopefully, everything “identity” that has made its way into just about everything.
I’d like to think that future kids might be amused/annoyed by parents still insisting on calling out race, gender, sexual orientation, etc., as the most meaningful aspects of Who Someone Is…or even things they, “should be proud of.”
Using “Basically” in the title says everything. Why, why, why create meaningless “news” that just confirms the idiotic/paranoid claims of the right?
If this was musk “melting down,” then, just fuck off. Arguing in bad faith just legitimizes the right doing so, throwing gasoline on fires and helping psychopaths get supporters. Or worse, elected.
Being alive can be pretty amazing; the world, people, life… But the price of entry is that your time is limited, and will end. oh, and you have no idea when. :)
So “being alive” is, by definition, to be actively dying.
Second:
Anxiety (worry, dread, etc) is always and only ever based on an imagined future. This is where you are right now, imagining outcomes you have no way of knowing. Sadness (regret, self doubt, etc) is entirely focused on a remembered past. We all experience both.
Right now is all you really ever have. Learning to put (and keep) your attention there takes work, but it’s worth it!
addicted to arguing in bad faith because you get so much support for it on these forums.
Fucking BINGO.
In these types of posts, Lemmy reads exactly like a Fox News comment thread.
What a drag. The “Lookit me I am 14 and a totes badass” cult infesting Lemmy has just about killed it for me. I just hope things change and more adults show up.
Hard to maintain if someone is pushing all the right buttons, but I have found it most useful to treat every argument as if it is being made in good faith.
Sincerity is impossible to “prove,” so any attempt at calling someone out is doomed; best (imho) to engage the point and not the person making it.
You know what would really, really aid Gaza?
