  • I've noticed the same thing between many generations regardless of chronology. I've also noticed it outside of the us. I think the root issue is that groups of people want other groups of people to be angry at.

  • He just looks like some guy. Not sure why so many people are commenting on his appearance, its childish and unnecessary.

What actually occupies that guys time, is the process of re-filing the bill to rectify the accidental omission of cousins.

  • /Because the vast, vast majority of internet users are uninformed, highly susceptible to peer pressure , and love to build and follow social norms for superficial reasons./

I offer a less patronizing explanation:

Social interaction requires other people to interact with. A platform with more people can provide more social interaction. The average person does not make the choice to use larger platforms because they are uninformed or affected by peer pressure. They make that choice because the thing they value most in social media is a large userbase.

The average person does not claim to want something more out of social media. They don't care what advantages or disadvantages a platform has.

There are of course people who claim to care about these things and still continue to use more popular and worse platforms, but they are far less common than you seem to think. Also the fact they aren't changing their behavior doesn't mean they don't actually care, it just means they care more about other things.

  • I promise you, they simply dont know what books they are banning. They come up with some criteria and then schools have to sort through their books to make sure they all comply. A graphic novel of the book of genesis got banned from my school district. I garuntee they did not intend for that to happen.

  • I don't support either one because in many ways I think they are effectively the same. My views are certainly more in line with liberals and I think they are much less directly harmful than conservatives, but the parties themselves are more or less the same to me.

Neither of them effectively push the policy I want, and both purposely create an unnecessary divide between each other. They both need the other to be the antagonist to continue creating this strange dramatic version of politics.

Parts of my family refuses to speak to one another purely because of this. Their views aren't even that far off from each other, but neither of them actually understand each other's views. All they understand is the manufactured hate between each other.

Again, I think conservatives usually cause the most problems, but the other party can't exist in its current form without someone to be angry at. There is no actual motive to stop the problems from being caused, so they are only amplified and worsened.

Both are actively creating a worse place to live in, and I wouldn't support either one regardless of whatever views they claim to have.

  • I've been called a centrist for simply not supporting either party, so I was under the impression that was a common way of thinking about it.

Using that definition of centrism, I don't actually disagree with anything that was said here.

  • I understand the dislike for people that take no position whatsoever, but the hate for centrism I've seen extends beyond that. I've been called an enlightened centrist for simply not supporting either party, but I guess that might just mean those people were mistaken.

  • I'm not sure why centrism is so hated here. As long as you acknowledge one side is more damaging I don't see a problem with it. The other side might have less problematic views but they both subsist off of each other and thrive by creating vitriol between each other. It shouldn't be taboo to not support either one. This meme doesn't even really seem like its attempting to make that point anyway, although I understand how you could see it that way.

  • Any director who isn’t doing something subversive with the content has their head up their own ass.

Its a school musical dude, calm down. If you want a subversive and thoughtful performance then don't go to a school production.

Oklahoma isn't "poisonous" its just weird. But, its fun for high school students to perform, and that's all it has to be. The purpose of a musical theater program in a school isn't to impress you with complex well written narratives, its to provide the students with an experience they wouldn't get otherwise.

  • So my point isn’t that there is some great threat from Republicans.

That's the argument you seemed to be making, or at least that's how it seemed to me.

Yes, this is a population effect. This doesn’t mean we should single out Republicans for discrimination, just that they need to stop treating people who dress funny as an inherent threat.

I completely agree, but you were saying previously there needs to be a specific effort to prevent Republicans from committing sex crimes. That seems to fit the discrimination you are now saying you don't support.

That's why I corrected you and said the effort should not be specifically geared towards republicans.

  • However, on a given day, a random child is much more likely to encounter a Republican child predator than a drag queen child predator.

That's true but again, only because there are more republicans than drag queens. If they aren't more likely to be a child predator than others, they don't require different treatment than others.

Now add in the overwhelming statistics that show child predators are usually known to and trusted by the child’s parents, and the emphasis that conservatives place in trusting those placed in authority above them, and you have a recipe for disaster.

I do not find this very convincing. I don't see how republican ideals would result in more predatory behavior. Again, if you have evidence of this that isn't anecdotal I would love to see it.

  • No, a larger effort should be made to protect children from child predators in general. I haven't seen any evidence that republicans are more likely than the average person to be a child predator, nor have I seen any that suggest the same for drag queens. If you have that evidence, I would like to see it.

  • It isn't supposed to be used in densely populated areas because its extremely dangerous. Even if it wasn't intentionally used as a weapon (which it very obviously was), then its still not excusable because it still causes a lot of harm to civilians.

  • This is a normal effect for caffeine. It is a diuretic. Also, my understanding of the different effects you're talking about is that it is only true for people with adhd. Its because people with adhd lack the proper amount of stimulation normally, so providing the right amount of stimulation through a drug will treat the problem without inducing effects associated with overstimulation. They can still experience the same effects that neurotypical people experience when taking stimulants, but they would probably need to take more.

Again, this is just my understanding of it based off of my personal experience as someone with adhd as well as what my therapist has told me. I don't know if its completely accurate or not.

  • The discussion is apparently over now because you won't continue it. But that doesn't stop you from naming fallacies at me I guess.

We've had quite a long conversation, and you have yet to provide a half decent argument for your distrust of religious people. Therefore, hateful nonsense. I can't misrepresent your argument when I'm not even actually representing it. I'm just describing what I think it essentially boils down to. Its hateful nonsense.

Again, correcting you is not gaslighting. You are literally just wrong.

I did not personally attack you. I have worded things in passive aggressive ways throughout this conversation, but that's about it. If you are referring specifically to the "hateful nonsense" part, that's again just a description of your belief.

Are you actually done now? Or will you keep saying random words hoping something works.
