I don't even know this guy at all and what this is all about. That's why I didn't understand your post but it made me curious. Apparently this youtube guy is accused of being a Nazi because of things he said in his 20s which only came out after he became famous?

Having watched all the veritasium math videos I feel like all the major breakthroughs in math were due to mathemicians playing around with numbers or brain teasers out of curiosity without a concrete use case in mind.

To add to that, similarly like there are microscopic and macroscopic processes we can only indirectly perveive, there are probably also processes on a much smaller and much larger timescale we can therefore only indirectly perceive.

Like one cell could be the whole universe of some absurdly small conscious beings with a lifespan of less than a femtosecond.

Imagining humanity as one organism to which you can either contribute positively or which you can actively damage helps for me.

The biggest influence on society for most people is probably what you described and then raise children in a mostly trauma free environment.
