  • I think if the vetting process to set these up is good enough then it will be hardly used, or maybe used by businesses to drum up business.

If the vetting process isn't good then a pedo will set one up in an alley

  • This post is satire, ai isn't there yet or probably ever, click the link. But I also think most small business owners want the cheapest website that meets basic functionality as evidenced by the massive success of services like WordPress, squarespace etc.

  • It's interesting that cannabis oil vapes (side note i find these worse in almost every way to a dry herb vape and don't understand the popularity) almost always have disposable tanks attached towith reusable batteries in contrast to nicotine almost always fully disposable.

  • On windows 11 or windows 10?

The <win10 context menu is old and poorly designed. Each app that declares itself on the right click menu gets to hold up the entire menu for like 3 seconds each. So if you have one poorly designed app that can appear on that list your right click menu will be super slow. Try to go through the right click menu and disable each app that appears one by one until you find the culprit.

Windows has this official tool, if you go to the explorer tab and find .../contextMenuHandlers section you can easily disable them one by one but i haven't used it personally.

Win11 tried to fix this and moved to a different model but in doing so made the first level right click menu functionally useless.

  • I had a similar problem, fwiw I have an ecobee. I simply added an intermediary step an hour or two before the final temperature so the heatpump has a chance to go. There is also a threshold for auxiliary heat lock in the settings on the thermostat itself that doesn't show up in the app which I increased which helped a lot.

  • Mine is rated for -25, which where i live in southern Ontario has been reached 3 times in 50 years (wind chill doesn't count remember). And while I haven't had a heat pump for one of those days I don't think it would be a problem, after all the efficiency doesn't just drop to 0, it just doesn't work as well for that one day and my house could stay a safe level of warm for a day or 2 without heat anyway.

Despite this I am required to have an auxiliary heat source, so I get charged 30 dollars a month just for a gas hook up I haven't used.

A lot of heat pumps have normal electrical heating as a backup as well.

  • I agree with sentiment, but as stated that's just eugenics with extra steps. By controlling the cost, availability and/or accessibility of the course, you control who can have children. Also how are you going to enforce this policy, forced abortions?

Better imo to make childrearing a part of the school curriculum with a highly encouraged refresher course later on. That achieves the same end without risking peoples liberties.

  • Comparing Python to c++ seems disingenuous, Python is not a replacement for c++, it should be compared to bash, PHP or maybe R. Don't get mad that a hammer is not a good screwdriver.

  • I think the question is ill defined. The answer is entirely dependent on the definitions you use and i don't think answering the question really leads to a meaningfully different view of the world or has any real intellectual consequences.
