It's so very interesting, I recently walked into the bank that kicked me out 15 years ago. They actually knew who I was (small town bank where I grew up), they crawled so far into my ass to get me & my company back that day, I could taste their hair styling product. Very satisfying just to say" remember, you kicked me out because of a few bucks over my limit? Yes? Good! Today you learned something. Bye" Pure Bliss. Those assholes.
Edit: Germany here.
Nothing is ultimately safe, life is uncertainty. That doesn't mean one should not care about privacy, but it's apparently very difficult to tell people to use human sense and that pink mass between their ears. If I wanna use a wood planer, I should first learn at least the basics. They all want something "that just works". Newsflash, nothing "just works", paleolithic people knew that already.
I actually was a real advocate for gears, then I drove my wife's new car for some time. Modern automatic isn't only comfortable, it's actually more (fuel) efficient, especially in the city. Now I'm an automatic guy. And - the circle of life - my daughter, looking for her first car this year: "No, I want gears!" Now she's got gears. In a car that weighs less than my phone, but hey, what do I old 🥔 potato know.
Here in Europe we have something called "salary" and when there's a price on something, it's the price. The salary should be fair, at least the law says it has to be and mostly it is. And tipping/bargaining is a business practice that will and should die, too much room for greed/fraud/scamming etc, these times are over. And I don't bargain. Very few people I know do it like to do. And that's a good thing. I don't even bargain with business partners, I expect a fair price calculation from the beginning and that's what we do with our customers. And there's a growing trend in business to do this. The room for greed, nepotism and cheating is getting smaller and smaller, some day we'll have a fairer business landscape, for everybody. If a customer or business partner asks why something has that particular price, I just tell him or her. Easy. If he/she goes to someone else, he'll or she'll get a product that hasn't got our quality, he's (or she's) free to do so and people did. And 100% came back to us, not 99%, 100% came back. And if it isn't like that, there's something wrong with us or our product. And it makes it so much easier and fairer for everybody. Times are a'changing!
Morality and ethicality has nothing whatsoever to do with legal or illegal. Legality is a concept obtruded to people by a minority, elected by a miseducated and misled majority. What OP meant was obviously the spirit of sharing as opposed to profit at all costs. And the answer lies in itself, the spirit of sharing includes sharing (hence the name) and not only leeching, that's what private trackers try to assure the users do.
Modern gaming? I'm playing war thunder since 2016 (with interruptions) and it feels like a chore since 7 years. Now as I think of it, the chores began for me back in the 90s in a point and click adventure on a 286 PC.
... who should not forget his Mehrlagensichtfensterklotzbodenbeutel full of his stuff (yes, it's a real word here, it's a large bag, mostly filled with cookies at the store)
Oh he is STILL at it? Wow, that's 5 years? Or more? Gotta give him this: he's persistent! I watched him at first, even if it's infuriating at times, but eventually even I lost interest, and I build shit like that myself. No marble machine, but giant mechanical calculators, a pneumatic organ, boats etc But I think that's what happens when musicians fabricate stuff. I know one who builds his dream guitar for 16 years. Next year he'll be done. So he says. But then again, so he says for 15 years.
In Germany I bring them to a "Wertstoffhof" (recycling station), open 24/7, they're all over the country (not all are 24/7 open, but they are daily open)
I actually and honestly could live without any social media. The only thing I read is Lemmy anyway, I never got why I should read Twitter-like stuff, that's too out of context, like the walls in the school toilet. The rest I just forgot. Something with face... My prediction is that the whole ordeal will die anyways in the next 10 years, but until then many many people will let themselves be milked by the few. But that's how the world is, I guess. People are still joining organized religion, too, even though it's a few thousand years since they did something good without ulterior motives. Gotta go now, there's a swedish chair that's waiting in my workshop to be created. Bye
Suits that actually fit. Does nobody know anymore how a man in a suit is supposed to look? They all think they're so fashionable, instead they look like they walked with a paper suit through a steam bath. Awful.
When we lived in turkey 1982, my father was building a dam, we had a turtle masked "Mathilda", she loved clover blossoms and wasn't exactly small. One afternoon my mom had made her toenails with red nail polish. She was sitting there and reading the papers while my father and I were watching the turtle, coming like that picture here veeeery slowly for her toes. What can I say? Turtle bites, mother screams, we laugh, turtle flies, we still laugh, mother curses like a sailor. Turtle ok. Mother not so much.
