  • I think it's more that they tend not to get invited to non-monkey PNG meetups. Possibly in part due to their habit of turning any meetup into a monkey PNG one.

  • It is perfect. I feel bad for these idiots, but not quite bad enough to manage not to laugh at them.

"'I woke up at 04:00 and couldn’t see anymore,' said @CryptoJune777."

The guy with the red cap ape profile picture casually asking if anyone else ended up in the ER.

cryptobirb thanking for "great apefest logistics", while encouraging his peers to seek medical attention ASAP.

    Comedy gold.

  • I mean, you're quite clearly paying for the lack of features here.
Which makes the 8 ball even dumber.

  • Then again, I'm not sure people are hungry for that - most of them just want old Twitter back.

They don't actually want any of the underlying issues to be resolved, they just want to feel relevant by screaming at each other in the void.

  • I really appreciate the resentment for Mozilla of all things. It makes no sense whatsoever of course, but at least it's colourful.

  • A deeply Christian, well educated colleague of mine noted that "while it's sad what is happening, I saw a protest and I think they went too far". So I asked in which way, as I hadn't seen anything in the media. She responded that she had heard people say "Allah Akbar".

I had to explain to her that contrary to popular belief, "Allah Akbar" does not mean "death to the infidels". She was genuinely surprised.

If the racism fails to do the trick, a lot of people can probably sleep well at night knowing the dead children were Muslims.

  • My family just wouldn't exist anymore if it lost that many people.

And I can't help but feel that's the entire point.

  • With an emphasis on once held hostage. People were killed and mutilated during the kidnappings, the old lady who was later released was beaten with sticks and struggled to breathe during the motorcycle ride.

She said they were kept in clean rooms, slept on mattresses, and received medical attention. They received white cheese and cucumber for eating, and Hamas told them "We believe in the Quran: We're not going to hurt you". The former hostage, Oded, noted that they took care of even the smallest detail, and her son sad that "If everybody in there is in the same situation, there is room for optimism".

This doesn't justify any of the actions of the terrorist attack. Obviously the situation is awful. But there is a good chance the hostages are still allright, which is a glimmer of hope in an awful situation assuming you have any piece of your humanity still intact.

Furthermore, I don't believe my original post was that unclear, and you've clearly read the reporting. You knew exactly what I was referring to, and you're still out there wasting people's time trying to fuel hate. As if there's not enough of that already. Fuck off.

  • Well, some of the released hostages report that while the experience is traumatizing, they were treated relatively well once held hostage. Of course, the released hostages were a) mostly elderly citizen and b) the ones Hamas chose to release, so there might be a selection bias. But the treatment of surviving hostages might not be as bad as initially feared. Let's hope they make it out soon and safely.

  • If you're going to equate the dead children in Gaza with Hamas, you might as well say this lady "earned" it on account of the policies of the Israeli far right.

There's no such thing as "earning" the mass murder of civilians.

  • Unfortunately I'm not so sure they're missing the point. I'm afraid there's quite a few people who are just excited to see their scheduled genocide put into motion.

  • I imagine you just broke bernieecclestoned's heart after having been called thirsty and misinterpreting it for years

  • Wouldn't even need to open source - they could have joined the fediverse as closed source, offering a platform to those people who are apparently scared away by anything with a permissive license.

Then again, these people are probably more eager to be on bluesky.

  • Hell - the fediverse has more than 20 000 registered servers.

  • The appetite for falling towers seems to have dropped for some reason after 2001. Could be anything really!

  • It would be complete bullshit, but clearly the people on the other end would be too stupid to recognize it as such. So there's really no reason not to do it as long as you're aware that it's an empty threat.

I think you could achieve the same without bullshitting by simply saying "Please delete my data within 30 days or I will report you to the relevant authorities", but each to their own.

  • That's frustrating. I think Kbin recently improved it's moderation tools quite a lot, but I'm not involved enough to really have an overview.

I checked out Lemmy for the first time ten months ago from a thread that was shared on Mastodon, it was a completely different product back then. I agree moderation tools need to be a high priority, but there's little doubt the platform has improved a lot over the last year. It saw a sudden growth that nobody was really prepared for, and all in all I think it is impressive how well it has gone so far. Moderation still seems to be better than certain commercial platforms. ;)

  • The whole thing is very young - Lemmy is not ready for prime time, but compared to a just a few months ago it has come a long long way. I think it has a healthy user base, and just like Mastodon it will mature gradually as long as the users remain.

It will be interesting to see how groups are integrated in Mastodon - hopefully it'll motivate more cross-fertilization between Mastodon and the Threadiverse. :)

Also, I find Pixlfed to be very much ready for prime time! Peertube as well if you're a content creator interested in hosting your own content, but that's a more narrow use case.

  • Either you misread the comment or there is something here I don't understand - I don't think jimmydoreisalefty is defending the Israeli settlers at all, or claiming that they improve anything. He's just reporting their method of expansion. Or are you referring to someone else?
