  • $19M? With 50 employees, that's an average salary of $380k/yr if my poor math skills are correct. Is that for real?

  • Was playing with KDE on live boot today and noticed WiFi took a long while after entering WiFi creds. Didn't bother digging into why, though.

  • The web version lists almost a dozen languages, but the Android TV version only shows locale-based, unfortunately.

  • I'm in another country for a while and can't get English subtitles on my Netflix content on my Nvidia Shield TV. I was using a translator app and pausing the video to understand garbled audio and gave up watching.

I don't dare contact support, so I'm planning to cancel and lean into my eye patch.

  • Thanks! But I just found the former redditor/data hoarder who did all the real work.

  • If you are seeing temps out of spec for your CPU, its not unheard of for thermal paste to dry or even shift if the laptop has been through some chassis strain. Could be worth a careful examination.

  • How do you mean that its overheating? My GF says the same about her laptop, but its just cooling itself off. Does yours freeze or start slowing down a lot? Are you monitoring temps and see that they're beyond your CPU acceptable range (usually 90C, IIRC)?

  • Dang. It was very useful for me when I had dozens of machines to SSH to. And I only scratched the surface

  • I had to scroll a bit to make sure this answer was here before I wrote the same. 👍

  • Have you compared kdenlive to shotcut? Wondering how they compare as I've been working with SC for a few months an dfinally getting used to it, but the lack of a titler feature is a glaring omission.

  • Breathe in... Good... Now please enable location access in settings, and be sure to -- exhale -- enable background data access... Feel better?

Seems there's still some work to do to remove tracking and Google notification services. When it's on F-Droid, maybe more folks will try it.

  • I forgot that the job where I discovered it mandated Windows machines...

  • While I agree with your premise regarding the dual justice systems depending on class, in this case, the guilty party is in jail here he belongs (but likely not unrelated to the fact that he stole from richer people with more power).

Bankman-Fried had been under house arrest, but prosecutors convinced Judge Lewis A. Kaplan of the Federal District Court in Manhattan that Bankman-Fried had fed documents to the media in order to intimidate a witness in the case. Now Bankman-Fried has to prepare his defense to seven criminal charges from jail.

That was as of August, while the case was ongoing: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2023/08/sam-bankman-fried-is-going-to-jail/

  • The documentary details ideas of the flat Earth from different perspectives, including prominent flat-Earthers Mark Sargent and Patricia Steere...

After the release of the film, Sargent and Steere both claimed their fanbase has grown considerably.

That's unfortunate, but understandable, I guess. As for the others, I see one has a following that use his last name as sort of a religious title, and didn't feel like clicking on the flat earth website to add to their ad revenues...

  • As you do...

  • That's embarrassing...
