  • This isn't the first time Iran's nuclear program has been targeted. It's been regularly attacked over the years. Getting weapons grade enrichment is really hard, it's years of lead time to get centrifuges up and running before you can even attempt enrichment. It's not unbelievable that they haven't gotten pure enough uranium for a nuke yet, it matches up with what we know about their program from what has been inspected.

  • The Iran strike is a terrible reason to try and impeach Trump. That's why so many Democrats tabled it. While impeachment is a political process, you need something to attach to it that's plausibly illegal, this was a legal action.

If they focused on sending marines to LA or the rampant detaining of citizens by ICE who technically has no authority to do so, they might actually get somewhere.

  • I think someone elsewhere posted that that authorization was cancelled. The real reason is the war powers act, all a president has to do is tell Congress within 48 hours, the tweet is probably good enough as it was ruled an official communication source in his last term.

  • It's pretty straightforward, they have to do something, but they really don't want a war with the US despite any public comments. An attack that can be directly traced to Iran that even targeted the mainland would be a great way to ensure the US escalates.

  • Germany was actively trying to get some level of control over middle east oil during the war. Their failure to secure reliable and plentiful oil is a big reason they lost. The campaigns in north Africa were largely about control of Egypt and the Suez canal. Part of the invasion to Soviet lands was also opening a route to the middle east.

  • In the US, school boards and superintendents are a common source of political corruption. Many states allow for local control of districts, so these boards oversee the spending of tens or even hundreds of millions of local tax dollars and government grants.

  • The war powers act makes it lawful for a president to take military action against any country, provided Congress is notified within 48 hours of that action. Then a president gets 60 days + 30 "withdrawal" to wage any war they want without congressional approval. Furthermore it's been ruled violations are basically irrelevant if troops are gone before the matter gets to the supreme court.

Clinton and Obama both violated this law with 0 consequences. Trump might also violate the law, but we won't know for 90 days.
