  • As someone else who works in customer service, thank you! I take pride in trying to make sure the customer is always properly helped, and done so in a kind and just manner.

I get that some people are jaded because of past experiences (and I really am not trying to understate that here), but treating the customer like shit because of it only perpetuates the cycle. The customer treats the support person badly, which causes said rep to treat more customers badly, etc. If no one takes charge to stop it, then the customer service industry will always be doomed to suffer - on both sides.

I'm just glad that my current job does let me actually help our customers workout having to worry about KPIs and other metrics (we have one metric, which is to reach 0.5% of something on all of our tickets - it's pretty forgiving). I left my last place because it was always about the numbers, and had no human element accounted for your performance.

  • Yep, same here. Wouldn't want to use eSIMs at all if they were any more hassle than this. But their process to me is good enough to outweigh the physical SIM swapping process.

  • Jeez, that's terrible - I am sorry! I don't have an answer as to why people are like that unfortunately, I suspect most people here won't either - but that patient sounds insufferable.

  • Are they not Bluetooth? I swear I remember connecting my Wiimote to my PC via Bluetooth eons ago by just holding down the 1 and 2 buttons to enter pairing mode.

  • Doesn't seem to run correctly for me on my PC or Deck - after reaching the main menu it hangs and then I receive a generic "The application has hung and will now close" error with Proton Experimental. GE Proton results in an unauthorized modification error at launch.

But, I'm glad to see progress is being made regardless! Just not sure why it doesn't work for me lol.

  • Seems like a bad faith argument, seat belts are so that your skull (hopefully) doesn't detach and fly through the window if you get into an accident - a life and death safety measure. It's way more dramatic to make a fuss about that. However, in both cases you can choose to just not drive (or play the game) which people are choosing to do.

Then again, none of your comments here seem like they're in good faith, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

  • charlemagne for my desktop, and invictus for my laptop - no particular theme, just liked the names lol

My servers however previously used gods from Greek mythology though, as controversial as that apparently was (?)...

(To be fair, I think the controversy was regarding doing that in a professional / enterprise environment of which I am definitely not in)

  • It's all good, I appreciated the advice and tips! Funnily enough, I have that exact reputation at work, to be honest I'd rather be too descriptive than not descriptive enough 😅

There's certainly a balancing act to be played of course, but if that balance ends up being impossible for me, then more information (in my opinion) is better!

  • That's good to know, thanks! I might actually have to look into giving it a go one day, maybe for an old phone at first just for some practice so to speak.

  • Plenty fair enough, thanks! That does remind me that I do need to look into Nix{OS} again, SteamOS does have built in support for Nix (or at least, I see there's a /nix folder by default now). Had some issues with daily driving NixOS on my desktop a while back ago, but I suppose that doesn't mean I can't use it as a package manager!

  • That looks awesome! I can't imagine myself being able to apply a skin, I can't even get a screen protector to go on correctly 😅

  • If I may ask, what was your motivation to run Bazzite on your deck? I'm familiar with why you'd use it on your PC (ended up having to turn back from it on my PC, as I couldn't figure out how to disable the upscaling the desktop had), or maybe a HTPC, but I haven't seen anyone mention why they install it on their deck so I am a bit interested now after seeing multiple people mention it.

  • I will say, though I don't agree with a lot of the GNOME decisions for their desktop environment, their apps (especially the ones using libadwaita) always look very clean - that new System Monitor is gorgeous!

  • Also, IRC doesn't constantly try to throw "upgrades" (Nitro) in your face every single moment that it gets.

  • Exactly, its like if I claimed online that I had a million bucks - even if I weren't lying, it doesn't matter unless the right people believe my claim. It's the same premise here really, the truth only counts when you actually have power sadly.

  • Interesting, that is good to know! I don't have any VR equipment (maybe one day!), however it sounds like the Flatpak has had some odd issues here and there that cause it to be a bit problematic.

I haven't confirmed it, but I think it has some issues with the controller I use (I'm one of those weird people who prefers the Google Stadia controller...), I was confused at when one day the rumble on it had stopped working, even though it previously worked perfectly (even after installing the steam-devices package). Later on I realized that I had switched to the Flatpak version of Steam to give it a try. I only say that I haven't confirmed it due to the fact that I had made plenty of changes to my system in the time between doing so and realizing what had happened, that perhaps something else I did affected it, but I have my doubts about that.

I personally prefer the native version when I can have it, one of the funniest reasons being that I like being able to see my currently playing music through MangoHud, which doesn't work in the Flatpak version of Steam (+ the Flatpak layer of MangoHud) due to the sandboxing (and I'm unsure of how to pinhole it through). It sounds silly, but its those small things that come up (but then also add up) as potential drawbacks between going with everything being sandboxed.

  • A bit of a difference here. From what I recall, a VAC Ban only affects games that actually use Valve's Anti Cheat, hence the name, which is not so popular anymore as far as I know. And they're supposed to only affect that game individually (but since they're public, other game/server owners can decide to ban you too).

Getting an Xbox Live or PSN ban will prevent you from playing any game that relies on the respective service's network (which they enforce for any game that has online multiplayer in it).

  • If you're interested in using Debian directly, @c10l@lemmy.world put out a great post on this! It worked absolutely flawlessly for me, it goes over getting things like a newer version of Mesa, newer (or alternative) kernels if that is your thing, along with some extra firmware for AMD cards that aren't present in Debian's packaging yet.

Even just regular Debian is fine, and you can easily install the Flatpak version of Steam if all you want is a newer version of Mesa.

  • Definitely not, I'd say the thing you need the most is the will to learn - as there are differences of course, but being willing to learn new things will go a long way.
