What's the use case?

Hydrogen is so much smaller than natty light that on a Continental scale the losses could be significant, but that's neat history. It's fun how long stuff has been around like gasification.

If the process to make hydrogen is clean, burning h is way way way cleaner. That's the math, not the source. Ente auth is new, but open and cross-plat, unlike aegis. Aegis still wins on Android but ente can import aegis encrypted backups.

Simpler approach: auto export from aegis when an update occurs, syncthing or similar to your home PC. I have it synced across several computer in different locations and aegis is good enough to make unique filenames, combine with syncthing file history and I'm good for like 2 years of backups.

They had an obvious solution which is export to an encrypted text files and went with the option that lowers your security

I use this on my windows machines, offline , has biometrics, supports export and import from aegis. Is new and untested but past few months have been solid.

Agreed, it not fair and I appreciate the breakdown. I just get frustrated with the (more common on Lemmy) attitude that it's up to users to deal with linux' many many shortcomings for daily use that are in your category 1, especially.

Agreed there may be a middle ground somewhere. 1 GB in 2024 feels pretty light given I just bought 36 tb for the same price a cheap tablet...it's just never gonna be parity.
