  • Circumstances were different at that time than they are now. I've already written in another comment about it, but briefly: Biden has already beat him once, Hilary wasn't the ideal candidate, Trump now has charges and lawsuits against him. Most of the people who were complacent in the 2016 election realized their mistake and voted for Biden, and if trump is running again they'll likely do the same

  • I can see where you're coming from, but I'm not talking about actively promoting him over other candidates. Rather, prosecute him to the full extent of the law but don't try to take him off the ballot. Let his own actions tank him

Plus he has already lost to Biden before. Hilary wasn't an ideal candidate, given everything tacked onto her by the GOP

ETA: There are few things that'd be funnier than watching him try to run a campaign from inside a jail cell (though I doubt it would come to that)

  • Has anyone considered that Biden might have an easier time beating trump than he would Nikki Haley? Yes, the trumpers want their orange-over-lord, but if given no other choice they'll vote for anothwr GOP candidate. Some republicans only voted for Biden because they also hated trump. Given someone who aligns more with their belief they'd chose them instead. A woman might also ease their abortion fears because some GOP women might be hoping that Haley secretly supports abortion (because they, too, secretly support it)

Banishing trump from the ballot will only backfire

  • I wish more people could see this, and understand it. It's a bit shocking to me how little empathy people have. Empathy isn't just about knowing when to give someone a hug- it's also about understanding what makes some people angry (among other things). Removing Trump from the ballot in California would do FAR more harm than anything else.

I agree with (you) and Newsome on this one

  • I was discussing this with my husband. I think part of it is that some of the Lemmy crowd came over because they were banned on reddit for being hyper-disagreeable, rude, violent lil bastards.

I came over because I got sick of he-get-sus ads

  • Every other word (not literally) out of my mouth is a curse word, so much so that I feel less of a need to use them here. Plus every-once-and-a-while peeps take my rando opinions far too seriously. So, (to compensate), I try to be more polite than I would when actually speaking

  • Could be! I've spent the last 3 or so years with little to do but think, read, argue and watch youtube. I tend to watch mostly educational content, ranging from the big ones ("nile red", "veritasium", nutshell I can't spell, "world science festival") to lesser known ones ("sci-show", "fall of civilizations", "economics explained", "donna" and a bunch of others). Robert Sapolsky is amazing, btw, look him up if you don't already know who he is. But anyway, most recently I learned about the last 5 mass extinctions in a video by "paleo analysis"

    Anyway...

I think many people will die in the upcoming climate crisis (and are already dying) but I don't think humanity itself will completely die out. I mean, we are not the pinnacle of evolution that some people would like to think, and we're still changing and likely will continue to do so as our environment changes. But die out completely? Prrrrrobably not. As a species we're highly adaptive (even though some idiots in power hold us back) and I think that at least enough of us will survive to continue the species.

Maybe not, but I think we have a shot that's no more unlikely than anything else that's happened so far

  • It takes time. They have to sort through which threats are credible, how they are connected, etc. Things like this help to expose extremists. They'll come out of the woodwork, bit by bit. Plus, it reminds the more moderate people that Trumpers are bat-shit-crazy. Most people would be embarrassed by Trump and his supporters. Some will be so embarrassed that they'll vote against him even if they somehow like him otherwise. Lets not forget how emotional they are.

It may seem like this is bad all the way around... but I really believe they just need time
