  • But this lends to defeatist attitudes that refuse to solve the problems. People that don't have children have no stake in the future.

  • I used to live in a country that had a program to get social groups to step in when friends get to child number five. If you're poor and disadvantaged the next child is just idiocy.

The bulk of the overpopulation comes from communities with no way to stop a population boom.

But, the environmental footprint from rich Western country parents is equally nuts.

As long as you are neither problem, you're probably going to have a child that is part of the solution.

  • Bulk refrigeration. There are equally cheap bulk items that fit in a plant based diet.

  • They haven't even got into the micro-footprints found in the huge variety of food crops available across the world with a plant based diet. It's the opposite of hunting. The more we plunder, the more successful that plant becomes.

  • In practice it doesn't work that way. There's as much chance a Green elevation is going to work against Trump. People in Republican states aren't going to vote for Biden, but they might be persuaded to vote for Green candidates over Earth conservation issues. Farmers and hunters can usually see green problems despite not being able to see progressive issues.

Some of the greatest conservationists in the world have come from hunting groups that have become disillusioned by the loss of game to aggressive corporations and destructive hunting practices. Similarly farmers see the breakdown of the ecosystem.

None of this needs to involve liberal and Democrat viewpoints.

  • The guy on Codeberg or Forgejo might have less resources to hide something, and probably wouldn't dare. The bigger the companies, the more people involved with the resources to make tracking software look like regular data requirements.

If you employ something with hundreds of hours of code you're less likely to see backdoors. Look at a simple program and any kind of odd insertion stands out immediately.

  • Most leftists I know are absolutely Scrooges. It horrorfies me every time we come up with a brilliant plan to save the world.

The ones who aren't usually burn out trying to accommodate the rest.

  • He has posted since this was posted.

  • Other instances have been patching and upgrading since the hack. There's nothing happening on lemmy.one

Edit: I don't see custom emojis anywhere though.

  • The blocked instances are at the bottom of one of the pages, and last time I checked it was a blocked instance.

  • The site complains about ad blockers.

  • But, you're @Kurt@Lemmy.one and it works fine. It depends how you're searching. If your instance on Mastodon doesn't know anyone on Lemmy.one then you will need to put in the full path to find an account. But considering my Mastodon instance knows about Lemmy.one I can see your account.

  • Facebook is reported to be using a shadow profile of non-facebook users. Mastodon stated that whenever you interact with a Threads user it will be recorded by Facebook. All they have to do is join a conversation as a lurker, and your data is sent to Facebook. Given a few more points such as time of day and topic they can start to narrow downwho you are. Add your profile picture, and manner of speech an AI, which they have a multitude of, can generate a probability of who is communicating. Over numerous interactions the law of six degrees of separation will have you nailed down. In some countries this is potentially a problem over data retention, but they'll have lawyers looking night and day for a way around those trifling laws. Willingness to federate might be seen as consent by default in some cases.

  • I just blocked the shitpost community and haven't spotted anything since.

  • I've lived in a communist country before. It's not really an issue for me.

  • I live in small city where the exact opposite applies. The cycleways don't extend through richer neighbourhoods. The poorer neighbourhoods are plastered with cycleways. But there's lots of NIMBY people here.
