  • I think that it's a pretty reasonable assumption that intersection of people familiar with alternativeto and the people interested in seeking Facebook alternatives on the fediverse are also more than capable of spinning up a friendica instance on an rpi

  • Friendica is starting to seem like a fantastic option to serve as a hub account to the fediverse! There's a reason people liked Facebook at one point, and I think they're on the right track to advancing the idea with less corrupting influences

  • if they weren't already organizing, I bet they are now. CWA has been receiving so many high quality leads for the last 2 years that they literally do not have enough dues-paying members to fund all of those campaigns. They're one of the largest unions in the US already.

  • As a person who's organized petitions for widely felt issues, the impact isn't strictly from a raw percentage of participation (though it's a significant factor when that number is large). The impact comes from the number of people involved. Of the roughly 1 million doctors in the country, 1% were so against the concept that they chose to take direct action.

If that many people were moved to action, how many are against it but not ready or willing to fight? How many felt it wouldn't matter if they signed? How many more didn't hear about it?

  • You're right on all accounts, I oversimplified for humor. Server-side IS more expensive and does exist in limited ways. Rolling matches on dedi servers are highly profitable, unfortunately the old school days of matchmaking are over for everything except indie companies that want to replicate the nostalgia
