  • Trump doesn't have to bluff anything. I've seen a few comments now suggesting that Zelenskyy somehow has the upper hand and is negotiating from a position of strength while Trump is weak.

Ukraine and Zelenskyy have absolutely no leverage over Trump. Zip, notta.

I hope Ukraine wins this war. I hope Putin pisses off Trump and Trump resumes full support for Ukraine. I hope Putin is destabilized and better leadership replaces him.

But Zelenskyy is no position to "call" anything and Trump has no reason to bluff.

  • It's a Plague Inc. joke. In this game, you're the virus/bacteria, or whatever other disease. You guide the virus's evolution with the aim to destroy humanity.

The virus slowly spreads across the earth through planes, boats, etc.

There are a few really isolated spots, including New Zealand, that are hard to get to and they often seal their borders very quickly. When that happens you lose.

So the smart first step is to start the virus in one of the hard to reach places.

  • there have been legitimate concerns that the ongoing violence in the DRC could result in lab leaks and whatnot. I believe there are or at least once were some small lab outputs in DRC bush set up to help with monitoring for diseases.

  • I think it's more the nature of modern air craft. There isn't much spare room and space is extremely expensive on planes. Meanwhile, these deaths rarely occur.

There's probably some way to design a system to secure a body in the bathroom, however, and I broadly agree with you that they should have some type of solution.

  • Economic desperation and lack of education. Think back to how dumb humans were just like 400 years ago, which is what 20 generations or something? Essentially no grasp of diseases in the modern sense. We are biologically 99.9999% or whatever the same as them.

Ebola spread during that ~2015 outbreak in large part because local customs meant washing the dead and otherwise being in close physical contact. Sadly, people simply didn't know better.

  • Yeah but one of these days a virus is going to get smart and start up in New Zealand and Madagascar. Chuck in a long asymptomatic (edit: contagious period) and game over.

Come to think of it, why haven't viruses done this yet? What are they, stupid?

  • I think the problem likely comes down to safety and respect for the dead.

Put the body in the back galley and suddenly the plane hits rough turbulence and that body is now a +100 pound projectile.

Putting the body in a bathroom seems better, but that turbulence hits and now the body is flying around in there during the rough turbulence, and then the next day the media is lambasting the air line for desecrating the body or whatever.

  • Prostitution is always a weird one for me. On one hand, I don't really care about these decisions between two (or more) adults. On the other hand, many and probably most people are forced into prostitution due to economic hardships (edit: and that's messed up and exploitive). But on yet another hand, cracking down on prostitution could cut off a crucial lifeline for many people facing dire economic straits.

It'd be nice to live in a world without wanton exploitation. In such a world, yeah I'd just mind my own business without much extra thought.

  • The headline is factually incorrect and I suspect intentionally inflammatory.

A White House official has allegedly said this, and that official is an economist working on economic policies rather than military or intelligence.

It's still scary and suggesting anything this extreme around Trump is a horrible idea because he is so impulsive.

But, we need to be careful not to misconstrue or misrepresent things as doing so could give ammo to the Trump administration

  • Well this is certainly an interesting development. Assuming Trump didn't give the green light (and I doubt he did, but who knows), Adams may be digging himself into a deep, deep hole. Happy to loan him a shovel btw. Keep working it.
