I was so addicted to ZZT back then! The player-made worlds were such a delight, and my slow-ass computer which choked on so many then-current games ran them without trouble.
Heretic was more than a Doom clone, it was developed using a modified Doom engine with the participation of Doom developers. It was a clever game in its own right, adding a lot of fresh elements to the then-budding FPS genre.
The modern Christian Establishment has a great deal in common with the United States itself. There's tons of writing and chatter about being based on principles of personal freedom and responsibility, taking care of one another, etc. while in real life the ones steering those ships will laugh you out of the room if you suggest they actually try to live and treat folks anything like their texts say they should.
There are, of course, genuinely good Christian and American individuals out there, but they are clearly not the ones in control of their institutions; the collective human organizations which serve to represent them are all about keeping up sparkly appearances and telling nice stories while standing firmly on the necks of anyone they deem too different from themselves.
I mean, the article keeps mentioning "egg producers" which can only mean the chickens themselves. No human can actually produce the kind of eggs you want in your omelettes.
I'm a dark-mode person on computers, and I'm also a visual artist. When I draw digitally I always prefer drawing light colors onto a dark background, and when I paint I always prefer painting lighter colors onto a black-primed canvas. I think I first tried that after seeing a behind-the-scenes about Batman's artists doing it that way, and realizing it made much more sense to my visual and artistic sensibility.
I always wanted to play with the editor and make a game with it back then, but never got around to it. Perhaps it's still not too late!
