  • Reminder: You actually can text 911! If you're ever in a situation where you need to be absolutely quiet (e.g. home invasion, active shooter) set your phone to silent, dim the screen as much as possible, and text 911.

  • So people will learn what the Trump administration is all about!

  • Another commenter gave the main point but there's more: Treaties. There's a lot of treaties that only work because nearly every county signed on to them and the reason why they signed on is because of promises of aid... USAID.

Things like the Berne Convention that guarantee that countries will enforce copyright law. It's because of that treaty that it doesn't really matter where you upload pirated content... It'll still be taken down because all these countries (with Internet) signed on.

If there's nothing like USAID to help these countries they will likely pull out of the Berne Convention and other treaties and start pirating (and selling) content from other countries like the US.

Free movies from wherever for all citizens! Pirate anything and everything! Use our country's YouTube and TikTok equivalents and you'll never have to worry about your content being taken down!

There's other things like not developing weapons of mass destruction, not working with our enemies, providing for the safety of our citizens that visit, etc that will all likely go away along with USAID.

  • That's a great question! Normally the Executive branch enforces such actions but that's only a convenience. The judge in question can sanction the Trump administration in any number of other ways... Such as ordering courts to freeze (or seize!) their assets.

It would be an interesting situation if the judge froze or seized cabinet members or Trump's personal assets though. It's much more likely the Judicial branch would sort of seize (financial) control over these broken agencies by appointing special administrators. They would be well within their rights to do so!

Congress doesn't like it? They need to pick a winner by impeaching one of them. Except there's a big problem with impeaching a judge for such a ruling: The next judge that comes along might continue with the previous setup or rule exactly the same way.

Then what would Congress do? They could just keep impeaching judges but it's unlikely they would be able to actually do that since they don't have a supermajority in the Senate.

My prediction: That's when the Trump administration actually starts to get the military involved and tries to sack the Senate or just attempts to assassinate a few prominent Democrats.

Except he doesn't have the broad support from the people to actually be able to get away with something like that. It would be civil war. Or more like endless insurgency.

That sort of situation would result in all his billionaire friends losing nearly all of their wealth and drastically increases the likelihood of angry mob/guillotine situations.

Then again, I wouldn't put it past them to not really think that far ahead 🤷

  • This actually doesn't matter too much! Because the very second a Democrat gets into the White House all the bribes that occurred during the Trump administration will be prosecuted.

Oh right! They don't plan on ever letting the voters decide Federal elections ever again!

    Never mind.

  • This will require rounding up to the nearest nickel... Which costs $0.14 to make 🙄

  • I would've expected the Trump administration to take a bit longer to follow Hitler's example... He too had problems finding enough room to jail his "undersirables". So he built facilities to handle them all.

It started with normal prison-like work camps but eventually those facilities started including tools for mass murder like ovens. There were just too many people to get rid of!

How long before we start hearing about unexplained deaths in these facilities? How long before their jailers start executing people for minor offenses (real or perceived)? How long before we start hearing about detainees asking for money to pay off the guards (or their employers) to keep them alive?

  • Where will they go? Gaza was the concentration camp and Isreal's bombs are the ovens.

  • International aid, Byanyima said, “helped an American company to innovate, to come up with something that will pay them millions and millions

That's the problem: It wasn't enough. Companies like Gilead are only interested in returns of billions and billions.

Getting even $100 million back (profit) after spending 10 years developing a drug would be considered a huge waste of time. They only get to keep the patent for ~20 years which means such a drug would only be returning ~5 million a year... A drop in the bucket

The US subsidizes the cost of developing life-saving drugs like this precisely because it isn't economical to do so otherwise. USAID also guarantees minimum sale amounts of US-funded/developed drugs.

Without USAID a big part of the benefit to working with the US to develop new drugs/treatments is gone.

  • Any place with screws loose or loose nuts.

  • Conservatives: Do you want gas prices to go down or not‽ The way to keep gas prices down is to keep liberals buying electric vehicles!

Moves like this are only going to make gas prices go up!

  • It's because all the money is being spent on treatments instead of cures! Big Pharma is big for a reason.

If doctors had a way to cure people's pain/conditions they would!

  • Start by going after adulterers! There's nothing more anti-christian! It's in the Ten Commandments!

Notably absent from the Ten Commandments: LGBTQ people. Perhaps they should get a lower priority? 🤔

Trans people aren't even mentioned at all! They must be fine then 👍

  • Republicans: The party of red tape and anarchy (don't believe in the rule of law).

Also, the party of family separation and the nanny state that thinks the government gets full control over certain people's bodies, what books they're allowed to read, and what they're allowed to view on the Internet.

  • For those wondering "why?": They want undocumented people to be as dumb as they are.

  • “Unclear about injuries. But Fox is told he appears to be ok. McConnell was helped up by Sens. Steve Daines (R-MT) and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK),” Pergram posted

Fox: It's fine, everybody! He's just as dead as he was before 👍

  • Becky Pringle, the president of the National Education Association, a major labor group, warned in a statement Tuesday that Trump's coming order would hurt students and families, especially in vulnerable populations.

Team Trump: SWEET! That's the idea! They finally get it!

  • If other countries want to get serious about fighting back they need to announce they're dropping out of the Berne Convention.

That treaty benefits the US more than anyone else and especially not small countries. The only reason why small countries signed on to it in the first place is because of things like USAID and avoiding tariffs!

If the US is ending USAID and putting tariffs on fucking everything then why TF would these countries continue to protect US copyrights basically forever.

I was surprised as heck that Columbia bent over and didn't just announce that they're dropping out and will start hosting the biggest "pirate" website ever where they only honor the first 15 years of copyright.
