  • Stupid term people use for "writing" code without the knowledge of programming by using AI.

Kinda the next level of running random code from the internet without understanding what it does.

  • I (and everyone I know) eat every day, world hunger is blown out of proportion!

  • You think being brave is not being afraid? In this case, not being afraid means you're dumb, not brave.

  • And thanks to Proton you can now do pretty much everything that you can do on Windows. Unless you do graphics design.

  • Sure, sure. I think it was obvious what I'm talking about, but yeah, you got me.

  • No, it probably isn't more dangerous in the direct sense. But it's more dangerous in the subtler ways. Look, I'm from a country where we had the Soviet bland of dictatorship disguised as communism and let me tell you it's very similar to the Chinese bland.

You have to censor your opinions because you might end up in prison for saying the wrong thing to the wrong people. And the worst thing, you don't know what you're missing because the government and its secret police tries really hard to make sure you don't know how much better it is.

I believe that you had a superb time as a tourist in China, after all they only show you the good parts as a tourist. You're simply not allowed anywhere that might shed light on their propaganda.

I'm not saying US is some kind of utopia or whatever, but pretending China is a good country to live in is crazy and dangerous.

  • Do you folk have any other talking points than "but USA bad"? This question is not about USA, it's about fucking China.

You sure nothing's as terrifying? I think being an Uyghur in a Chinese concentration camp might be even worse.

  • Thiefs, low quality, dictatorship, murders, will probably try to fuck up my life in the future.

  • Well, as I said in my first comment, that no one cares today doesn't mean no one will care tomorrow. If it's illegal, you should take precautions.

  • VPNs are a barrier, true. But prison bars or having to pay millions to huge corporations are even bigger barriers. Sure, it might not happen to everyone and it probably won't happen to most. If you want to gamble with your life, go ahead, but please, don't tell others some form of protection isn't needed.

If you don't want to or can't pay, don't torrent. There are other, safer ways to get content.

  • Are there any countries where torrenting is legal? AFAIK, all countries ban sharing of copyrighted content. For example where I live it's legal to download stuff, but not sharing it with others. You can't really avoid sharing with torrents.

  • Always use a VPN. With torrents you actively share the file which is illegal pretty much anywhere.

Even if no one cares today, someone might tomorrow.

  • If you want GUI, I'd go with Fedora, if it's CLI only, I'd go with Ubuntu or it's derivates.

If you like functional programming, you can try NixOS, it has a steep learning curve, but it's very sweet once you get the hang of it.

  • So glad I migrated away from Gmail few years ago.

  • Okay, I can be your linker, now we only need a parser.

  • No one is saying all games should suddenly turn VR, no one wants that and no one expects that to happen. I'm not gonna go complain that Elden Ring is too hard and they should introduce an easy mode - the game simply isn't for me.

Companies should experiment and there should be games for people who like Elden Ring difficulty, there should be games for people who like Telltale-style game/movie hybrids and there should be games for people who like VR because some people do like to be active.

So no, "it should be a second-class citizen" is a nonsense take.

Tagging @rtxn@lemmy.world as this also answers their comment.
