  • You know they can't legally operate there if they don't follow the law, right?

Pulling out is the only form of protest they have as a company. The rest is up to its users.

Anyway, if it happened, you could still use Signal anyway, perhaps with the help of a relay like other countries who prefer spying over privacy.

  • I did elaborate a bit in a sibling comment.

  • I don't exactly think ill of him, but I'll stay away from any platform he creates. He shared one snippet of code where he disabled validating certificate validity and certificate names. When called out on it, he decided to delete the post.

Security and standards don't seem like the first things on his mind.

  • Who would've thunk that misusing the same type for both public and private posts (with a sprinkle of weird mention rules to determine the visibility) could backfire?

Well, definitely not Mastodon devs. Lemmy's current approach of using an entirely different type is much better.

If you're interested in some details, I recently wrote a comment about it: https://lemmyverse.link/lemmings.world/comment/14476151

  • why they would want to pass trauma onto me

It's not like it's intentional, usually. Everyone has a different way of coping with trauma and sadly, one of the brain's most usual defenses is repeating the same behaviour, because that makes what happened normal - if I do it too, how could it be something bad?

People who do that need a therapy to stop repeating the abusive behaviour, but as with alcoholism, the first step is to admit you have been abused. You would be surprised how many people don't get past the first step. And that's how abusive behaviour in people who are not necessarily psychopaths occurs.

As an aside, being a psychopath (not a sociopath, that term doesn't exist in psychology) is also a defense mechanism, although one on the extreme side of things and it's generally incurable past a certain age.

  • You can never truly confirm any scientific theory

All of physics would like a word.

  • I limit suggestions to one line, that's the sweet spot for me.

  • I've already shared this image once today, but here you go:

    I think we're safe for a while.

  • Stupid term for when people who don't know how to program ask AI to generate code for them which they have no expertise to actually validate.

Edit: It took 20 minutes, but I finally found the poster child for vibe coding (time well spent):

  • Different strokes for different folks. In a hypothetical scenario where I'm a billionaire and buying a Pollock or an AI image in print and choosing what to hang in my bedroom, it for sure won't be someone throwing random splashes of colour. It's extremely boring and awkward.

  • Have you heard about AI Horde? It's a cluster of volunteer workers generating text and images for everyone for free.

You get credits by contributing your GPU to generate for others, but you can use the service without credits (or even an account), credits are there just to determine your position in the queue.

You can try it out for example on HordeNG (disclaimer: I created the HordeNG frontend).

  • Proton is usable even without Steam, you simply publish the Windows version only and people will figure it out. If you make sure it works with the Steam Compatibility layer (Proton), it's easy to run anywhere on Linux.

For GOG the easiest would be Heroic Games Launcher which also uses Proton.

  • I personally am fine with Proton, the native Linux build usually doesn't work as well as the Windows one because devs don't usually care because of smaller market share (or don't have the time as is often the case with indie studios).

What's the name of the game? I'll add it to my wishlist if it sounds like something I'd enjoy.

Also, if I may ask, do a GOG release, I do 90% of my gaming there.

  • Mother

    Jump
  • Not really on any significant scale.

  • Ah, so reporting stuff he said as if it was true, even though this is not a Signal security issue, but his incompetence is fine in your book?

So what, if Trump says random bullshit, every news piece about it should sound like they actually agree with what he said?

Okay, enjoy your articles about Signal security issues.

I don't particularly care about your fish or your frying.

  • And are you going to call both a "bank security issue"?

  • So you're gonna pretend that's your first interpretation of the meaning of the sentence, huh?

Edit: Also, that's wrong interpretation of what happened either way, guess the title doesn't work even if you're intentionally obtuse.

  • Nope, it's not. The part saying "the only glitch in two months" is indicated as a quote, but overall the title sounds like there's a security issue in Signal and Trump chose to dismiss it because it's the only glitch in the last two months.

  • Sure, but I don't really care what that idiot thinks. When I read an article about there being a "Signal security failure," I expect there to be a Signal security failure.
