  • I am in no position to say what Merz will be for Germany, but talk of teamwork amongst Europe is good.

  • People from all across the age spectrum (including this group) use the term "college kids" to refer to folks that are generally 18-22. So if 22 is a kid, you are barely an adult. I'm not sure what all is making you feel old, but maybe having good people on your life can help. I have a spread of ages and it helps with perspective. I am middle age 🫣

  • Piefed? It integrates with a variety of federated things but I haven't gotten in too deep. I have a similar path as you.

  • Agreed. Except for one time last fall, I knew it was going to happen and did it anyway, thru the company's website. That one company had their own portal and everything, didn't know it came from amazon until it arrived 🤷 I'll do it again! If I was selling stuff I am sure I would have to look at these few options out there.

  • Great point. The limited times I have purchased from Amazon in recent history was accidentally in this manner. I think that purchasing directly from the creator's/company's website might send a message that some folks would like an alternative, but I don't know that. Either way, it is less amazon.

  • This is just hearsay from another federal employee, but word is they were terminated for performance issues (that almost certainly did not exist). I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but thought I would share it.

  • I've had a body high from a poo, it is pretty remarkable, but the lead up was different and not something I want to repeat. Maybe I will try some Italian food!

  • Eating a spicy meal that is at my max tolerance such that I can continue to eat as normal. I can get a high from that 🥵😋

  • Since you've been obsessed with them lately, have you seen Who Is Cletis Tout? Great film that features some carrier pigeon action and an unconventional cast.

  • I really appreciate your and @aeiou_ckr@lemmy.world replies. I live in an area where multiple time zones are part of life, but didn't see how this could actually be beneficial. I've had to do some funky stuff to know what time it is, but like you say, I wouldn't need to do that with this. Thanks for helping me see the importance of this!

  • I struggle to see a reason for this, even with the example provided in the article. I think it would be annoying for folks who live at the edge of two zones, but I also think it will continue to be a setting that could be cycled.

  • Not for new books, but vellichor is a relatively new word to describe the scent of old books.

  • What?! That's incredible. I think I can say with confidence it wasn't my Aunt 😬 Incredible story, I'm going to ask.

  • I'm not sure I've seen that movie but I do remember one where some kids (or one kid?) rode bikes into an old quarry. I grew up near old quarries in southern Ohio and heard the same things you mentioned, and likewise never did those things. My Aunt worked at IU in the 60s, I am going to ask if she ever heard about this if she can remember. She was a librarian there.

  • Neat picture! Was this essentially a one time use quarry? I understand that the Empire State Building is very large, maybe it exhausted the stone. I wonder what the "ponds" are used for now?

  • Looking good! We got out at work and did some lunging and a bit of riding. It was warm! But we have a winter system moving in and it looks like it will be cold after that. We need the snow here, looks like you still have some!
