The Bell system is an inappropriate comparison. It was a monopoly; it was not what @toiletobserver@lemmy.world is talking about. Corporate monopolies were bad then, and are bad now, which is likely a factor in why New York is doing this.
I don't have solid answer for you; I have no experience with leggings. I have had to put effort into finding pants that fit me appropriately, and that made a big difference in comfort and confidence. Rise was a big part of the equation for that item of clothing, but it related to fit in the groin. Ultimately, the correct rise led to better fit down leg. YMMV. Good luck!
I would argue that the change he advocates for is in the direction of the worst parts of status quo. The unbridled capitalistic endeavors of the rich, specifically. Very different than Bernie Sanders.
I wasn't in middle America, but experienced the same thing. I still don't understand it. Is it just populism? If so, not good. I definitely shed friends in 2016.
I don't understand any of the people on that supposed short list, but maybe I shouldn't try to make sense of it because nothing makes sense if people like Musk are in the running. What's the big picture here?
