  • Ultimately, the best approach is the one that works best psychologically for you.

As long as you're quantatively tracking the in/out of your dollars, yoiu're doing it right.

From there, if your goal is to save money, its about rewiring your brain to gain pleasure from things other than consumption. In my life experience I've found the most sustainable way to feel good without spending money is through personal improvement and achievement. Skills, athletics, creativity, doesn't matter. If you're regularly getting better at making or doing stuff you're proud of, you'll feel good for free or cheap.

  • "Burundi is the poorest country in the world by GDP per capita, and is one of the least developed countries, facing widespread poverty, corruption, instability, authoritarianism, and illiteracy."

"The country's dominant party is the National COuncil for the Defense of Democracy, a former Hutu faction in the civil war. It has widely been accused of authoritarian governance and perpetuating the country's poor human right's record".

The record is so bad it gets its own Wikipedia entry.

This guy's a clown and a failure of a leader. His country is a mess and he can't run it properly. Maybe he should focus on his own failures before attributing failures to others.

  • My favorite ever Druid was a human named Cleetus Fernbottom. I modeled him after the idea of the swampbenders in Avatar: The Last Airbender.

He was middle aged, balding, spoke with a Southern accent and was about as wide as he was tall. He was from the swamp and loved all the critters there. But he was tricked into leaving for a life of adventure because his Druid Circle thought he was too dumb. He wasn't the brightest, but he had a heart of gold.

Mechanically he was a Cirlce of the Moon Druid, and I mostly used Thorn Whip as my cantrip and Giant Toad as my wildshape. His primary function was CC.

  • I'm a hardcore introvert who rarely gets lonely, but it does happen occasionally.

Similar to your school function, I find it helpful to have one regular, structured event in my life that forces socialization.

For me that's a tabletop gaming group - we meet once a week to play. The structure and shared goal is helpful, because it takes the pressure off of pure socialization. If I'm feeling social I can crack jokes & banter during the game, but if not I can just focus on playing.

Also, a weekly cadence means that missing one session doesn't make me feel super lonely, because I know another is coming soon. Your function sounds tougher since its only once a year - you might be better off finding a similar activity that happens more regularly.

  • "but hey" is a colloquial conjunction phrase in American English. It's usually used to indicate that the previous clause had a valid concern or made a good point, but the speaker is choosing to make light of it in order to disregard it despite knowing better, because they shortsightedly want the outcome described in the clause that follows.

Another example: "My doctor told me to watch my weight, but hey, it's Christmas and those cookies look fantastic."

  • Billy Corgan.

The music of Smashing Pumpkins got me through some very dark times as a teenager, but finding out he hates me because I'm gay snapped that personal connection. I'm usually able to separate the art from the artist and still enjoy good stuff made by bad people, but I'm not able to enjoy them anymore. The connection was too personal and the betrayal was too great.
