  • What an Unusual Whale. In a market that averaged just under a 25% return in 2023 Pelosi managed to get 65%. Surely this has nothing to do with the fact that she and her close colleagues are in charge of regulating industry and allocating government money. It's just that she's an extra smart and talented trader. And so are a lot of her colleagues. Like, a lot lot. Beating the market is the only thing Congress is good at.

  • I'm voting for Biden in November because I know that he'll be better for this issue (and every other issue) than Trump and I'm still calling for a ceasefire because what's happening in Gaza is wrong and evil. Sorry I don't fit in your box.

  • one of the fundamental problems of legislation is that, whatever law you put into place, eventually the most horrible asshole you can imagine will be in charge of implementing and enforcing it. if you make it so that you need to pass a test in order to run for office, look forward to the opposition party doing their best to game those tests to selectively disqualify their opponents. it's inevitable in a competitive system like this because people who don't take every advantage tend to lose to people who do.

  • what I'm saying is that people will do the same thing to pervert the intention of this whether you use it to limit voting rights or who can run for office. they'll make it an impossible test, they'll be in charge of who has to take it, and they'll use it to exclude candidates they dislike. the poll tests are an example of this happening already. it will absolutely also happen if you force candidates to pass a test.

  • my issue isn't tangential. everyone has the right to vote, and to run for office, absent any criminal history. there's a reason it's unconstitutional to do this to voters. I agree with you that candidates should understand how government works, but a test like this absolutely not the way to determine who can and cannot run for office. You know that one politician? That one asshole that you just cannot stand, you dislike them personally, disagree with everything they stand for and think they're just morally bankrupt? Whatever law you put in place, them or someone even worse than they are will be in charge of enforcing one day.

  • Why would i separate them. You take all the anger, you squish it down real hard until it's tiny and it's white hot, you put it in the center of you and set it to spinning, and it'll drive you to incredible feats.

  • Errbuddy wanna talk about tomatoes but the real question is, are bananas fruit? Some varietals are sweet and clearly belong in desserts and fruit salads, some are savory and starchy like potatoes, depending on the culinary tradition you come from they're used in both contexts, and they can and should have seeds but they don't due to selective breeding. Tomatoes exist in an ambiguous state, but bananas are somehow both at all times.

  • dozens of fellow passengers signed a written copy of a statement saying the airline made them wait for four hours without ventilation or water while the flight was delayed. According to photos of the statement posted online, fellow passengers said he acted “to protect everyone, with the support of everyone.”

“The delay and lack of air created conditions that endangered the health of the passengers. He saved our lives,”

wow airlines can just do whatever and if you don't like it the cops will beat the shit out of you

Here is a list of people who were sold seats on an airplane, then threatened with violence and arrest when it turned out the airline didn't have the seats to sell. One woman tried to use a seat she had purchased for her 2 year old instead of her teenage son for whom it was originally purchased. She was told that if she didn't give up the seat that they would take custody of her kid from her. Another woman bought a seat for her child, and then the airline just sold the seat out from under her to a standby passenger and told her "too bad". She said she was afraid to speak up because the last time she had seen other passengers who insisted on actually getting what they paid for beaten up and dragged away by police. Don't worry though, instead of giving her the seat she purchased they gave her a lei.

  • idk for sure but I think just android. it requires sideloading, on my android phone what it does is download an official version of spotify then patch it locally and install it. evidently it's illegal to distribute the patched apk but not the original apk and the instructions for patching it, so this is how they get around that.
