  • Beehaw defederated from shitworks around then (they are waiting for mod tools to refederate), you can see beehaw if you log out, or use a different instance.

  • Hm. I am a bit sorry for you and for those around you online stranger. Righteous intolerance is like drinking, at first its cruelty gives you rush but you'll have to keep going to avoid the hangover -to keep the doubt at bay. And like all drunks, you'll get so deep in your cups to wound those you care about. They'll have to make the choice to suffer you or walk away. Listen to the chorus, take control of yourself and stop the tragedy before the third act. Cognitive empathy is a skill you can practice now.

  • What's your take on cancer then? Imo it all comes down to the woman's intent to carry. We carve out exceptions for intent in society all the time. But we live in a world that really really doesn't like women making choices for themselves and will use any crutch it can to deny equal rights.

I can't take your blood without your consent to save my life can I? Even if you were a murderer on death row and I was a saint, it'd be a crime. People understand bodily rights when it's a kidney, when it's a uterus they lose their damn mind.

  • Crash Landing on You (2019) has like every single romantic comedy trope and it was still fun. Kingdom (2019) was also good. It was a fresh take on zombies and suspenseful, but season 2 left on a cliffhanger and season 3 is in limbo.

edit: I forgot Mad for Each Other (2021)! Another mostly romantic comedy about a guy with anger issues and woman with paranoid delusions as neighbors. It's quirky and quick paced. (tho TW for past domestic abuse.)

  • I'd also recommend a recentish book about him and Lincoln called The Zealot and the Emancipator in case anyone wants some light reading. The politics around Bleeding Kansas feels relevant to the US today.

  • John Brown did nothing wrong. (except maybe a bit tactically at the end.)

  • Hm. I just read Witch King by Martha Wells. New release with a sort of ~18 yo male protagonist. I'd recommend it on the basis of nteresting worldbuilding and characters. The plot is a bit softer and internal -like Goblin Emperor by K Addison.

  • I'd argue it's worse. Courts are going all in on one specific (possibility minority? Anyone got the numbers on this?) supernatural belief.

Plenty of religions cough and the bible cough believe life starts with the first breath.

  • The tweet that has their panties in a twist:

I just cannot believe that a Marxist lesbian who believes that collective power is possible to build and can be wielded for a better world is president elect of ALA. I am so excited for what we will do together. Solidarity. And my mom is so proud. I love you mom.

  • Had to Google that. All of my will power has been spent not downvoting you in revenge for this new cursed knowledge. Have a good day ma'am/sir/compatriot.

  • As an option of last resort I can always find what I'm looking for. But when the product is an individual's effort I try and walk an honest path.

I've requested fairly main stream stuff before, my library systems weren't responsive. It feels like maybe that the romance fantasy novels they can buy bundled cheaper? And the audience for them are not picky. So it's an easy way to get a bigger collection numbers and boost patron check-outs, just at the expense of better written books in the broader fantasy genre.

  • I am only getting new books from library systems and these fantastical romances make up most of the new acquisitions. I don't really look forward to new book notices because it's always like 85% were-badger smut now. And then I can't even rant about it irl because I'd have to explain were-badger porn to people. šŸ™.

  • I've made a lot of strawberry jam in my day, never had it settle with deposits. I'd say toss it. Can you share your recipe?

  • If you want the sweeter/candy spread you gotta go with the junk food brands like jif or peter pan. For crepes I'd only use it as glue to stick other things on, like strawberry preserves or some chocolate. Someone had a banana and honey suggestion that sounded good. That said, I cannot justify peanut butter pie. I'm sorry if we're exporting that.

Edit. Fluffernutter! How could I forget fluffernutter. Hey global community, has that broken containment? If you want some true nonredeemable American crack, make a peanut butter and fluff sandwich. If you use the natural pb it might not put you in a diabetic coma.

  • Unfortunately I'm not sure they can here. Age is part of a library card application. I'd bet the library systems will revoke access from patron data. This is totally against ALA principles, no way it doesn't go to court.
