Older generations have entrenched themselves in institutional power, they cling to it to their very last breath. Whether it's democratic power, corporate power, media etc.
Having two old fucks like Trump and Biden slap-fighting for the throne is the ultimate manifestation of that effort.
I'm not sure if it's different per instance, but in lemmy.world instance you go out to the feed and scroll to the bottom. You can search by user name and such.
It depends on the instance, a lot of the old tankie and russian troll mods from Reddit have tried to setup shop on Lemmy, yes, but it's difficult for them to have the same outsized influence since they can't just back channel to the admins to get people banned, like on reddit. Their power ends where their instance ends, sometimes even just their community.
Also, there's a mod log here which is cool, and the ability to block whole communities or instances. It's more difficult to hide trends in censorious behaviour in any given community.
even with massive amounts of American billionaire money trying to pump-up the Far-Right in Europe, it’s still but a pale shade of what’s going on in the US
The influence of Russia and China are what are inflating the rise of the far-right in both Europe and the US, when you misrepresent this fact you're helping provide cover for them.
Unfortunately our media are studiously not taking note.
Prior to these results, a few weeks back, NPR was trying to make it seem like the far-right and the "far left" were working together. It was the most bizarre, disjointed reporting I've heard in a while. They want people here to believe the center/left is extreme and uncompromising.
The detail in Kenshi is pretty amazing. I don't normally get sucked into single player games, but the design really does give the impression of nearly unlimited freedom, every different starting scenario feels genuinely unique. The slave start particularly was a ton of fun.
It's pretty amazing that it was designed by basically one guy. He was really efficient in how he chose what game elements to invest his limited development time into and clearly had a really strong vision. I hope he can get a few more devs onboard to develop a second one, I feel like even two or three other people would make so much more possible.
Israeli officials said the main point is Hamas' response includes flexibility that would allow the parties to enter into the first stage of the deal, while taking the risk that the next stages won't materialize.
So, once they get the hostages back the genocide continues and Hamas has no leverage to stop it, Biden will dust off his hands and declare Mission Accomplished.
This will either fall through or result in continuing civilian mass death and suffering.
It's working, so yes, the general is just as good a time if not a better to apply pressure.
The Democratic establishment uses the general as a way to twistthe arms of voters, so if they do it there's no reason voters can't do it right back. It sounds like you've forgotten that the politicians are suppose to work for you in a democracy, not vice versa.
Some time this century most likely. Climate change along with China/Russia's pursuit of empire along with their global campaign to seed and normalize autocracy will result in collapse eventually.
And Project 2025 is now forever part of the Republican platform, so you're quite literally saying that we will be forever stuck in desperate psuedo-survival mode, choosing the less evil candidate.
No, fuck that, people are tired of that. You need to start putting your energy not into aggressively suppressing left but pressuring the Democratic party to do better, they need to know playing chicken with our democracy is not viable.
That's literally why the Democrats keep getting away with the pied piper shit and why things will never improve, that thinking right there.
It's why they'll always find and actively prop up the most extreme fascist to face off against to make their own terrible candidadte look better.
If Biden steps down it won't be because of people like you. It will be because of the people who made it clear that they would not vote for Biden simply because he was the less evil.
Actually, chronic, systemic incompetence is one of the main factors preceding fascism. It doesn't have to be deliberate to be the manifestation of any given stage of conservatism.
The mechanism of why Republicans and conservative dems work together to degrade our institutions is quite simple; greed. It doesn't take much more than that really, and they get so caught up taking turns spraying money from the corporate money hose up eachothers asses that they can't mount any meaningful resistance when the far-right metastasizes into full blown fascism.
If they have to move to the right out of a sense of self preservation that kind of illustrates my point. The existence of NPR only matters in so far as it is able to speak truth to power, it has been steadily losing that ability.
Not really, NPR is a staunch supporter of the neoliberal establishment and function the same as MSNBC or other corporate outlets. They help prop up the corporate right wing of the Democratic party and suppress the center/left.
They've failed to elevate any of the very real criticisms of Biden, the only time they host criticism is when he's moved left even the smallest amount, then they're all over it.
They're also extremely susceptible to adopting the political terminology and framing provided by the far-right and seem incapable of recognizing that they're being played. It's why they describe the genocide in Gaza as a "war" still, describe people like Manchin as "moderates" and "centrists", and why they demonize people like Sanders as "the far left".
It makes people uncomfortable to hear, but NPR is corporate conservative more than it is center/left or even liberal really. They have been instrumental in moving the Overton window to the right, mainly out of political incompetence and self-interest.
