  • I'll be honest I came to the platform before the whole API-pocolypse because Reddit was down for about half a day, and I was getting tired of Reddit's BS. But ultimately the API-pocolypse made me swear never to post to Reddit again and cut it cold turkey, more or less.

  • A huge group moved from ich iel subreddit (meirl but almost like 196 in practice)... most german redditors were there. The main German instance was called feddit.de but the frontend and database got very messed up. The main admin was MIA so feddit.org was made instead.

  • I'm not sure how long this will last either, since conservatives are known to fall in line for their leader despite some performative outrage.

There are cases of Republicans somehow reconciling cognitive dissonances that are way more in conflict with each other.

  • It sounds like you're asking genuinely. Ross' interest is in games, hence that's the area he started it in. He's already stretched to his limit co-ordinating this limited campaign. He also advised to keep the scope limited so that the opposition to it will be mostly from games companies (Nintendo, Sony, Ubisoft, EA etc.) Than from movie companies (Paramount, Disney, Warner Bros. etc.) who will be also pushing as hard, using a lot of lobby money and a whole web of arguments from different fronts, that will be more difficult to deconstruct and rebut.

For other audio and visual content, there are often "analog loopholes" that can preserve media even if in a slightly degraded form no matter how many layers of DRM you put. Games do not have a standard method to do that, so access is unilaterally and permanently taken away without a way for it to have been preserved.

  • Get angry, but not irrationally.

Give the Carney government and MPs grace by telling them about what change you want to see.

I still have some faith that Carney is smarter than most politicians, that if there is a popular push for more progressive reforms, he would go along with it.

If opposition is limited to "I'm angry that you canceled the DST! I'm angry that you passed Bill 5!" that can be passed off as too vague of a criticism and doesn't really suggest a suitable alternative direction. Carney did a bunch of right wing stuff because they were confident they would get overwhelming house support, he would have something concrete to show for his first two months in this term. The NDP are kind of disarray and the party apparatus lost touch with local, grassroots campaigns that got people to support them. Even former NDP MP Charlie Angus would say as much.

  • Can we please have a source for the YSK statement you made in the title and the graph?

I have seen data on not having kids being the biggest choice a person can make to prevent future emissions. You also didn't mention flying less often, or not flying when a reasonable alternative exists. What is the relative impact of all of these things compared to dietary changes? Numbers on that would be helpful.

  • This [public service cuts, government financial austerity and all the other stuff in the first bunch of paragraphs] is a descent into fascism. By defunding the state and over-funding the military, Canada is careening towards disaster. And unsurprisingly, the voices that are paid by the corporate class, are cheering this descent on.

Come on, let's get specific. Call out our fascism where the descent into fascism is happening under Carney's government: Bill C-2, Trump ass-kissing, parts of Bill C-5.

I am diametrically opposed to wanton public service cuts, but let's be targeted and accurate at what we are calling the descent to fascism.

  • Sure. That is assuming that someone is available on the LibreOffice side to support the ministry for a particular amount, and that the policy related to government procedures can be followed under this agreement.
