But also, beyond that, been playing some fun platformers and having a blast! Oddmar & Suzy Cube are 2 stand outs Iβve been enjoying.
basically, any server in the fediverse (on mastodon, lemmy, whatever) has the ability to "defederate" from other servers - which means they basically cut the connection from them.
usually, this is a good thing as servers that tend to get defederated are often safe spaces for racists, homophobes, etc. If their only safe spaces to spew hate is defederated servers, b-bye!
BUT! Sometimes, some admins on some servers, even popular servers like mastodon.art on Mastodon and beehaw.org on Lemmy can be extra heavy handed & gatekeepy with their moderation. True, their members could leave for a more balanced server, but unlike on Mastodon, on Lemmy account migration is not possible yet, so it would be starting all over... again... for Beehaw users.
From what I heard, they cut off lemmy.world in the really early days (it's only been 6 weeks dang it!) over fear of bots? Yet, lemmy.world has actually been good about making the server isn't filled with bots (like when they held off on updating to 0.18).
just so weird. I know it's a very reactive and restrictive instance, but sucks how quickly they've defederated from... well, so much! Their blocked list is HUGE.
On reddit though, there are thousand of music communities. How did you know which was the right one? Subscriber count.
it's okay though, it's early days, pretty sure some communities in some instances will be the main one. You'll see the user counts and active users to help guide you. And maybe there WILL be two mains for the same topic - is that bad? If 2 general music communities both have huge active users, just subscribe to both! easy peasy!
I've subscribed to a few dupes here, it's all gravy. And I'm doing my best to nurture an alternative music community. =)
the same is true with reddit. They may not have the exact same name, but how many music subreddits are there? I follow at least 5 or 6 on reddit, but there are thousands, many of which compete for the same or sim genres or ideas, but a few tend to be the one people gravitate too and so be it.
I run Alternative Nation here !alternativenation@lemmy.world but on reddit here are 3 of many options, but clearly on reddit indieheads got the users.
Update seems to be running pretty smooth, but (and maybe I missed it) I think it would be super awesome if you put up a banner ahead of time letting people know you are doing a maintenance or update or something at X:00 pm EST or something.
To suddenly settle down and log in to post and support the platform only to be hit with a shit ton of confusing issues, then everyone posting about the same issues, then getting an update about what happened that caused the issues after the fact is less than ideal.
Again, maybe y'all did and I missed it, but a little banner with a heads up would be...
not a huge fan of dark mode on Office, something about the white background of the a spreadsheet or word doc contrasting on the dark ribbon and menus and stuff - too harsh for me.
I like dark themes, but not black themes. Give me a dark grey, dark blue/navy, dark purple, but black screen and white text is way too aggressive on the eyes.
Also, what happened that we only really get a "dark or light" theme these days if we beg the Tech overlords?
Back in the olden days of Windows 3.1, 95, etc, we could them the shit balls out of our computers. Suddenly 10000 years later, we have to beg Apple or some developer to give us pre-made themes? Sad.
