  • Aye, I have looked through this too: https://european-alternatives.eu/alternative-to/gmail

Unfortunately every service seems to have something going on that I dont like or they dont have something I want. Maybe I should just be less discerning. It doesnt help that switching is a lot of effort and bother.

I took a look at disroot but i heard about that too that there are some things about it that make it not useable to me, like them storing the mails unencrypted apparently. So that one became not an option.

Proton might be good, but after everything i have heard about that too i fear it might develop more problems later which would just have me switch again.

Tuta might be good, but I have heard about that one too that they like sending ads about their services you cant opt out so that kind of attitude doesn't sit well with me. Not even google does that. That also has be worrying they might start enshittifying the service at some point and maybe make the free version so awful i'd have to switch again.

Many others can't be used for free at all, which is quite important thing for service this crucial. I wish eu itself would create some email service instead of having to rely on corporations that might change their mind about anything the moment it becomes more profitable to them. Though that one would probably be very austere and definitely not have aliases as option.. Why must everything it related be so annoying nowdays.

Kmail on your list seems decent. I cant seem to find a way to make account for it, only to get the client for managing other accounts unless i'm misunderstanding something.

  • I dont even mind this too much yet still I want to switch off from gmail. If google decided to suspend my account for some reason I would be completely fucked. Even if you love google you still should switch off from using their services because there is a chance you might lose access to them in the future if this world goes even more off its rocker.

  • anything ai generated just feels deeply wrong if its supposed to be anything other than wanting to see how some idea might look like. I dont listen to much music so ai generated music can sound pretty good to me, but even then I still notice that there is no unifying idea in the details, just bunch of random threads that go nowhere. There is no reason for anything to be there in ai generated content because there can't be any reason since ai can't do anything by itself. Its so stupid they even call it ai because there is no intelligence involved.

  • to me, ai is a bit like bucket of water if you replace the water with "information". Its a tool and it cant do anything on its own, you could make a program and instruct it to do something but it would work just as chaotically as when you generate stuff with ai. It annoys me so much to see so many(people in general) think that what they call ai is in anyway capable of independent action. It just does what you tell it to do and it does it based on how it has been trained, which is also why relying on ai trained by someone you shouldnt trust is bad idea.

  • Planetside 2 as it was many years ago. I'll be forever bitter how they ruined it.

If I look at recorded playtime then its teamfortress 2 which wins just by 0.1h over rimworld and I havent really played tf2 for over 10 years.

  • this looks like wonderful program to use, my only worry is that how well openstreetmap is safeguarded against any corporation wanting to buy it out? This kind of community effort could easily make it vastly superior to anything corporations even could create so obviously they will try to acquire it at some point. Is it safe from that?

But provided that it is safe, this is really nice. I like going to new places but not having any real reason for it makes it feel a bit trivial. With this there is real tangible benefit for doing it.
