In the end, your mental and physical health should always come before the job. Money isn't that nice if you are stressed wreck. You should still look for other work just so you at least have some options if it ever gets too awful dealing with all the bullshit your current work forces on you. It's probably not going to get much better and any solution regarding disabling/mitigating the current surveillance is likely temporary at best.
Just try to do it in such way your current employer doesn't know about it, just in case they get uppity about it. So use only devices managed by yourself for it and dont talk about it with others working for same employer.
Its understandable though. Even though its also understandable the company would want to know where the trucks are, its also telling the drivers that they dont really trust them to do their job without surveillance. It should be enough that the freight gets delivered within agreed time and not too much fuel is used up in the process.
Personally i would compare the gps to office having sensors that record constantly which room you are occupying. With the ai its like having a camera constantly monitor exactly what are you doing at every given moment. And if you do anything company doesn't like you will be punished. Not only is it insulting, its exhausting having to ceaselessly consider is everything you are doing acceptable to whatever sensible or insensible rules the corporate executives have decided.
People who want to be truckers most likely are kind of people who like working by themselves and not having to answer for every single thing they do at every moment and now even that is being taken away from them.
There must still be some way to defend oneself against oppressive authorities in such way it doesn't cause problems to yourself. Though on second thought it might not be good idea to post detailed ideas on public spaces where those hypothetical authorities can also read them. Its like we are living in beginning of boring cyberpunk dystopia.
What if we "comply" and give them their damn records if they come demanding them.
Gigabytes of data that is just red herrings and stuff that doesn't lead anywhere but still has to be checked. And in formatted in such way it has to be done manually and can't be automated without even bigger effort and cost. If you give it to ai it will just start spouting nonesense or preferrably accusing obviously wrong people. It is likely not possible to make something like that, but it would be great if it was.
exclusivity deals, forcing them to drop from steam even after they first announced release on there. They also target crowdfunded games like phoenixpoint.
Even if they have fixed that specific issue, why would you believe they have fixed anything else?
So in essence, its not bad because it trys to compete with steam. Its bad because they really dont try to compete and just do anti-user things. And people dont care because "yay free games I'm never going to look at again".
If you want to see what actual competition looks like at the moment, take a look at GOG.
i have been waiting for long time for them to add enough content to be worth buying. If they are going this route, i guess i'll forget about getting the damn game entirely
it wont insult you for not knowing everything, wont direct you to some other similar problem that doesnt help with your current problem, it basically doesnt ever get mad if you dont tell it to. It would be very nice if it didnt have equally bad flaws on other things.
no no, i mean people should actually start utilizing this bullshit. Anyone can start a company and with some technical knowhow you can add somekind of ai crap to it. companies dont have to make profit or anything useful so there is no pressure to do anything with it.
But if it comes to copyright law not applying to ai companies, why should some rich assholes be only ones exploiting that? It might lead to some additional legal bullshit that excludes this hypotetical kind of ai company, but that would also highlight better that the law benefits only the rich.
i'm kind of grateful for starfield actually. Feels like I can see bethesda as it actually is, even though it was obvious even before. Its so easy to just not care about anything they do. They can release next elderscrolls all they want, its all dead to me. Even if they manage to make it decent i still dont want to even look at it. Its going to cost 80€ or something like that most likely, so that is so much money saved for something more worthwhile too.
well, the degree of that is also up to other people and how much effort they want to go through
