First time I ever had racks outside of home, was at a local restaurant called Kelly O’Bryans. I was in my mid-20s at the time. Decided to “Irish size” the order to two racks, not aware that they were already running a special that doubled the racks. Entire party stared in shock when four fking racks came out balanced on a single platter. And I ate them all. Including all of the pachos (cross-cut fries with a house dip sauce).
Second time was when Montanas came to town a few years later. At the time they were still doing six bones a refill, instead of the current 3-4. Had the whole initial rack (something they also stopped doing, only half a rack to start these days) and then did 12 refills. So seven full racks of ribs. I still have that receipt somewhere filed away in my bookkeeping.
I had the “hollow leg” of my youth clear into my 40s. But by 45 I could feel it noticeably collapsing, and by the age of 50 it was almost completely gone.
In my late 20s I polished off 7 full racks of ribs in one sitting. These days I have trouble getting completely through one full rack.
We should be carefully taking down names. Not to do anything now, but to hold them to account if another violent insurrection occurs.
Because even if Trump invades, these traitors will likely be hunting down the rest of us, and likely exterminating us as well. We need to be able to identify the traitors.
Like all the other things they have “failed at” with almost zero consequences? Like ignoring judicial orders and deporting American citizens and dismantling the government and shredding the constitution and all that other anti-democratic crap?
Sure, buddy. And I have some premium sand for you to bury your head into.
And even this is looking increasingly irrelevant. Trump has another 3¾ years to ensure nothing is in his way for a 3rd, 4th, or even more terms. And with Republicans working to ensure a permanent Republican ascendancy, even voting will become a performative act; a thin veneer of legitimacy papering over useless theatrics and a predetermined outcome.
Good riddance to a snake-oil salesman and populist rage-farmer. We can’t afford to have people like this as politicians, they lead to things like Fascism and dictatorships.
I mean, just look at Trump’s America. Same shit, different pile.
Almost 45% of our voting population are voting for the Conservatives. That’s a lot of people who desperately want to be the 51st state and live under authoritarianism and fascism.
Why they don’t just move there is beyond me. I would gladly see every single Conservative voter move to the America they want us to be. Canada don’t need them or their kind.
Our population grew at 17%.
Our GDP grew at 17%.
That is how we got a near-0% per capita GDP.
Are you really saying that all these immigrants, many to most of whom work minimum-wage jobs because they have no ability to leverage their own foreign education and certifications, are really going to be equally as economically productive as citizens who have advanced/established careers and domestically-recognized certifications and education?
Ya gotta use your brain once in a while, man. Otherwise your ignorance ends up bleeding out all over the place.
It’s just as bad as Schrödinger’s immigrant: simultaneously lazy AF and mooching off of social security, while also taking all of our jobs. It’s a recipe for racism and ignorance, while also being intellectually bankrupt.
They think life will be better in the States with all the untaxed dollars they'll have.
Not only do working-class Canadians pay less in taxes overall, compared to working-class Americans, but we also pay less on our taxes for our healthcare, and don’t have to pay a single cent on top of that for essential healthcare.
Where it does flip is with the “middle class”, on the upper end of the working class. They do pay more in taxes in Canada, but you’d have to be earning in the top-20% of all adults or families to see that happen. For the average Canadian adult or family, they pay less than their American counterparts.
We have a lower average wage than the poorest state,
Wow. Even a cursory Internet search could show that this is wholly and absolutely incorrect.
The lowest Canadian minimum wage is $15/hr, in Alberta and Saskatchewan. The lowest wage is tied between Georgia and Wyoming at $5.15/hr.
The exchange rate means that $5.15 USD = $7.13 CAD/hr. That’s less than half of what PEI minimum wage is. And for the record, even if I were to work at minimum wage, I would enjoy $17.85/hr, out here in BC. That’s 2.5× more!!
And even when we look at averages, the state with the lowest average wage in America is Mississippi, with an average annual wage of $37,500/yr.
When we look at Canada, the province with the lowest average wage in Canada is Prince Edward Island, with an average wage of $56,887/yr.
Again, the exchange rate makes Mississippi’s average wage around $51,952 CAD/yr. That’s 90% of what the average PEI wage is.
Your conservative “alternative facts” are nothing but bullshit.
Understanding basic math and economics can help a lot here. If the country’s population is growing at the same speed as its economy, the per-capita GDP will be about 0%. After inflation, Canada has seen a 17% GDP growth, which is more than the average.
exploding housing prices
Because of investors, and for no other non-trivial reason.
It’s the investors who buy up 5, 10, 15 or even more homes to then rent out, which are the problem. They are the ones who drive up the price and then leverage the “captive market” to charge whatever rents they want, because prices are too high for renters to afford, and rents are too high for them to save.
It’s the investors who buy homes “on spec” only to flip them near completion for twice (or more!) what they originally paid which are the problem. They are the ones driving home prices up purely for profit, likely having never seen the place.
It’s the investors who buy homes to flip, slap on a coat of paint and shove in a cheap IKEA kitchen before listing it for 20% more than what they paid which are the problem. They make no material improvements, frequently introduce problems via shitty work, and then expect to reap outsized rewards for something that is usually worse off than when they first got it.
And who encouraged these “investors”? The mortgage deregulation of the Mulroney and Harper administrations.
doctor shortage
Decades-long Conservative defunding of healthcare in order to “prove” it “doesn’t work”.
food bank usage is skyrocketing
Greedflation, thanks to food chain consolidation. Most of which was enabled by Conservative policies. The Libs looked the other way, but didn’t explicitly encourage it like the Conservatives did.
people are living in rest stops
See: “investors”, above.
on average we are poorer than the poorest state as they attempt to plaster over falling GDP using mass immigration.
How bad at math are you?
Canada’s GDP has grown by 17%, after inflation, over the last decade. They only reason why per capita GDP is near zero is because it is per capita… if population grows in lockstep with GDP, the math is inevitable that the per capita GDP will be almost nothing. But the overall after-inflation GDP is better than most OECD countries.
If anything, mass immigration hurts GDP numbers, it doesn’t help them.
part of that is dropping taxes
Except the only taxes that Conservatives will actually be dropping will be those of the wealthy and hyper-wealthy, because those are their campaign donors. This will put the taxation burden on those who can least afford it - the working class. And when tax revenues drop, out comes the cuts to social services, leading to more cracks that people and families fall through and more homeless people living out of their vehicles.
It’s a well-worn path walked by all conservative political parties world-wide, PeePee will be no different.
“I am not a fascist, a bigot, or an authoritarian. I do not want Canada to become the 51st state. I do not want to destroy the last public broadcaster in Canada. As such, Conservatives are the last party I would ever vote for.”
When facing a fascist and authoritarian regime, it comes down to a very simple question:
Do you want to die on your knees, or do you want to die on your feet?
There really isn’t any kind of a third option, unless you want to turn traitor and become a collaborator. Which I don’t think you’re going to be given that option.
it would for sure lead to a Constitutional Crisis.
News flash: America is already in-play with multiple constitutional crises. PoTUS ignoring direct court orders, abducting and sending US citizens and legal residents to foreign gulags, and so forth.
Now granted, this would be just another one on top of a rapidly-growing pile. But so far the Orange Cheeto has already “won” on a number of points. Right now, the constitution is such in name only. It’s pretty much window dressing at this point. What makes you think that another crisis will actually discourage him from just doing whatever he wants?
America is no longer a democratic country. It is plunging full force into “failed state” status in an epic swan dive of authoritarian destruction.
What, your body isn’t sounding like Rice Crispies every time you move? 🤣🤣🤣
