  • eh, picking an instance wasn't too bad for me. I already knew how federation worked, though, so I suppose that was helpful. I just picked one that wasn't too big (cryptocurrency mining has centralization issues too and i knew a bit about that so i knew not to pick the biggest), and had reasonable rules.

  • gimps ui is just less intuitive. I have no doubt it can do everything photoshop does for people who use it regularly, but as someone who just wants to edit some images occasionally, its challenging to learn (and relearn) its quirks everytime. all of that could be fixed by just changing the UI though.

  • wine is incredible, recently i downloaded some weird niche software from the 2000s that hvac system designers use, and i figured hey why not, might as well try it on linux before rebooting into windows, so i ran it with wine, and it just... worked. it was great

  • I was wondering the same, and it sounds like it all depends on theatre. Someone also said that if you had quite a bit of money (I don't remember how much, but it was in thousands), you could pay for them to get the IMAX film spool (which are apperantly heavily controlled, for piracy I guess) and play it again just for you.
