  • This place will 100% self implode in a few weeks without a commercial entity or a non profit stepping up.

There needs to be a monthly fee to pay for mods and hosting. But it won't happen because of the posts you mention. Privacy zealots will kill this place.

The bitching you reference is idiots without a plan bitching because they can.

  • The vast majority of self hosted users would not be able to respond effectively to a coordinated or sophisticated attack. You might block off large swaths of domains, blocking big IP blocks, etc; but unless you are serving a very small number of users (White lists vs black lists) you'll be fighting an uphill battle if someone decides to start going after your instance.

  • Hold on let me find Dorothy, Tinman, and the lion and we have the entire crew to hang out with strawman.

Ignoring the fact that AA has nothing to do with legacy admissions and frankly wouldn't survive a challenge on it's own even in a less stacked court; no I do not think banning legacy admissions would be effective policy. Legacy admissions allow an individual to expand capabilities and capacity of educational institutions and get a favor in return. At it's core it helps more individuals get education at the cost of unfairness which frankly is built in at every level. That rich person will always have an advantage. You've fixed a small and trivial piece. They still have the network and funding.

It's frankly hurting the intended recipients to right a wrong that will not be fixed unless you somehow eliminate income equality. It's bad policy in pursuit of an unrealistic standard for us to achieve in this decade+.

  • As if you are the first kid who thought their parents can't learn, don't deal with the issues, and can't empathize 🤣.

I'm 40 and could explain to you how AI works and have a better model how it's going to affect kids lives.

This is peak I'm 14 nobody understands me meme in nutshell.

  • Intention will be all over the place and it's not just about scholarships. It's about admission.

What it actually did was put middle class minorities in higher end colleges at the cost of middle class white kids. It did very little for anyone who couldn't afford the costs.

  • Because they will continue exist throughout even without investment. And for the price is not valuable to drop more money. You know what's valuable for poor people? Money and that's what STEM brings. Why the fuck would I pay tens of thousands of dollars to set someone up to get in line for unemployment or other form of financial assistance?

  • I honestly don't care. It's all resold analytical metadata and they just serve ads. The rest just makes the products and apps better. For the vast majority of users privacy has nothing to do with safety.
