I think the discovery of intelligent life outside earth will cause existential crisis to a lot of people, and some of them would turn to (new?) religions to cope.
A few years ago, when the only award available was gold, I used to occasionally buy gold to award comments I really like. Back then buying gold was the only monetization in reddit so it was pretty well received. I stopped doing that around the time they implemented coins and ramping up ads.
At least Xiaomi is telling their customers upfront that the reason they can sell their mid and low end android phones on the cheap ( by famously announcing to cap their hardware profit margin at 5% ) is due to advertising. IIRC their high end models do not have ads. Other manufacturers mocked xiaomi for this move, just like they mocked apple for removing headphone jack, then quietly follow the move anyway without telling their customers, which I think is an even bigger dick move.
HomeAssistant should works great on this device. If you have a bunch of smart devices from different brands and want to consolidate them into a single local system, give HomeAssistant a go. There should be plenty of resource left to run pihole/Adguard as well.
I'm not sure if the GPU is fast enough to run the Steam Link client, but if it does, you can hook it to your tv so you can stream your PC games into the tv when needed.
You can also hook it into a TailScale network and set it as an exit relay so you can have a VPN from your phone/laptop that redirect all internet traffics through your home network. Very useful when you want to secure your connection when using public WiFi in a hotel or cafe.
Man, I do miss those old dashboard widgets. Does this means we would get something similar back? If each space can have different widgets, that would be even better.
Those 2012 MBPs are using standard 2.5" SATA drives, so you can use any USB3 SATA adapter that supports 2.5" drives. Remember, always use USB3 sata adapter. Somehow there are still USB 2.0 sata adapters sold online right now, probably for legacy stuff so be sure to not accidentally buy them.
The drive itself is usually formatted in APFS partition, so you'll need to connect the drive to another mac in order to use. If it's encrypted, the encryption key is probably stored in the apple account associated with the broken macbook.
Your main concern is probably whether the disk got water damage or not. If the disk is damaged and unreadable, you'll probably can still recover it by paying a data recovery specialist in your area. They're expensive but can literally revives the drive as long as the platters are not damaged.
I suspect it's more like the workaround used by network operators to scale up IPv4 to serve billions of users necessitate more and more layer of nodes to route your packets through.
The possibility to have your packets passed through a shorter route compared to IPv4 packets is worth it imo. I have 280 ms ping to the US and I can cut it down to ~250ms by routing my traffic via certain countries with vpn. I really hope widespread IPv6 deployment would optimize global internet routing so my latency would improve even if just a few ms so I don't need to use VPN to override my route manually.
This particular type of interrupt exists because it would feel really bad if you were typing, and the text didn't show up until several seconds later when the CPU felt like processing the (hopefully) buffered input.
Meanwhile me enjoying multiple seconds latency when typing some commands in ssh using putty inside a windows VM using RDP accessed via a shitty corporate VPN from the other side of the world, while using another VPN because corporate blocked all traffics from other countries...
Those Unicode people really thought of everything, right? They even anticipated some resurrected mummies would want to sent text to each other, so they added Egyptian hieroglyphs and have all phones and computer in the planet to support it.
There are plenty of highly-rated indie games ported to Android and iOS. Why plays gatcha games and ads/microtransactions-laden mobile games when you can play Into the Breach, Terraria, Stardew Valley, Limbo, Samorost, etc for a small sum of money?
