  • I disagree. The reason that we have gag orders is to protect the integrity of the process. The integrity of the process doesn’t have anything to do with Donald Trump, it has to do with literally everyone else. And we learned a long time ago that it’s not possible to have a fair trial when a loud defendant can manipulate the press, attack jurors and inflame the public. It’s time for him to shut up and spend some time in jail.

  • I think the question is: should we have designed the internet such as to have made it impossible to find bomb plans on it? And to be honest, I don’t think the internet would be what it is if it were possible to have that level of filtering and censorship. Child porn is reprehensible in any form. To me, it makes more sense to blame the moron with the hammer than to blame the hammer.

  • Right, and the google image ai gobbled up a bunch of images of black george washington, right? They must have been in the data set, there’s no way to blend a vector from one value to another, like you said. That would be madness. Nope, must have been copious amounts of asian nazis in the training set, since the model is incapable of blending concepts.

  • Yeah, bigger rams have been knocking around smaller rams since the advent of fire, which was when capitalism started. Thanks for all the big brain takes on this, I wish I’d get a better tally of how many complete dumbasses there are around here. 70 and counting.

  • Black Panther is a significant contribution to black cinema (in its cultural significance, box office numbers, etc), but it is a single contribution to a long legacy of black cinema that didn’t start with Disney, and isn’t defined by a series of entertaining-but-insubstantial movies, or the current right wing myopia of the moment.

  • Oh man the “Capitalism bad” button is going to get really really tired at this pace.

Maybe bullies have been around and thriving even prior to capitalism. I bet lots of people would have felt “bullied” by Genghis Khan.

  • If I ask an LLM something like “is there a git project that does <something I’d describe in natural language but not keywords>” or is there a Windows program that does X, it may make up the answers, but at least I can verify that via a search engine. If I try to Google that (that’s theoretical, I don’t use Google), I’m going to end up on a page full of ads that is filled with trap links that lead to malware, top 10 lists with the same repeated content and all the other shit the internet has become. I kind of don’t mind the hallucinations relative to the ads. What a time to be alive though.

  • Yeah I can see the argument that implementing the regulatory framework necessary to monitor emissions would be more in our long term interests (and possibly cheaper in the long run) and better than hoping a broad tax will cause bad actors to act better.

  • Oh sure, every 4 years Lucy comes out with the football and taunts you to take a run at it and I’m the one not being realistic. It’s total horseshit to disappear on an issue every 4 years except when you think it might help you in an election to wave it around.

It’s not “Lemmy sees something good happen”; nothing good has happened. The same platitudes have been trotted out for the 78th time. But maybe this time…!
