  • I can create music with real instruments so I have zero interest in AI music. I look at it like writing a book with ChatGPT.

Yeah okay you supplied a prompt, but everything that defines the actual expression in music happens in the way you pluck the strings, bend the notes, choose the chord changes.

This is akin to in photography choosing the film stock, setting the iso, framing the shot, etc.

If you aren't doing any of that, it's more like commissioning a piece from a musician or photographer. You could call yourself a producer. It can be your concept, but it's not your expression.

  • This would be really useful with a personal translator device to avoid the awkwardness of saying something and waiting for the translator to repeat it in the other language. You could be wearing glasses or headphones and typing on this and having a totally natural 2 way conversation in a language you can't speak.

  • Exactly. It takes tens of thousands of discrete pieces of technology from 30+ companies to put a fab together. If you are missing a piece, no fab for you. So yes, if you can manage to block some part of that chain, you can effectively block that fab from being built.

  • Also auto updating block lists and topic filter lists powered by crowdsourced tagging are very important features these day.

And customized feeds are nice for when you want to add an algorithm (or many different ones) rather than just the usual default list of all skeets sorted in order with no algorithm behind it.

  • I dunno, it seems to be working for Bluesky. But I agree, it should be part of the registration process or at least somewhere prominent in the UI so newbies know to do it. Probably with a primer and warning on what tankies are ;-).
