Well technically, we're a constitutional monarchy with the King of Canada as our nominal head of state. Gosh. Though I wouldn't mind opening that discussion.

I haven't tried this, but maybe ssh -t "rm /var/cache/apt/archives/*deb" or something like to clear up some space would work.

One thing Debian introduced recently: apt upgrade --without-new-pkgs and they recommend that before a full dist-upgrade. I think it's made a pretty big difference in the upgrade smoothness, eliminating some possibly-breaking package upgrades.

Sorry, yeah, I realize I was proposing a reductio ad absurdum as a thought experiment. And yes, I do think that eventually they will get to that point, but my real point was that "time since conception" is not a great metric for a legal line to draw, it's merely a convenient one.

I think personally, as a cis white dude with no stake in the matter, if we had to draw a line for terminations without a specific reason, we should put it somewhere around 6 months with medical exceptions. Developmental problems often don't show up until fairly late, and I think that things like Down syndrome, major uncorrectable development abnormalities or genetic diseases or other quality-of-life issues are perfectly valid reasons for a pregnancy termination. But that's a huge mire to get sunk into and each additional rule would require debates.

Technology is improving the premie survival rate all the time. If we can pull an embryo and bring it to term after a week, should abortion be restricted similarly?

Some other criteria is necessary.

Mastodon (and the Fediverse) tends to see "scalloped" growth: big increases, followed by gradual declines. Every time Musk does something dumb, you see days or weeks of increased signups. Then the new users fall off, and they become inactive. Usually, it stabilizes a little higher than the last wave.

The waves come in, and the tide rises. The weather passes over, but the climate stays stable (or increases).

If Twitter collapses, then the tsunami arrives. :P

That's a bold but risky move, I wouldn't bet the argument on someone having dug up some obscure examples. The set of people in drag has to contain at least one, and using a 'gotcha' like that could backfire.

But you're right, they do seem exceedingly rare. Like, weirdly rare compared to the general population, even.

Just use "queer" if it bothers you.
