  • Use a dumbphone for calls and an Android phone with prepaid sim for stupid apps that modern life demands. They stay frozen most of the time (Insular). I also used to run degoogled LineageOs, but very often bank apps and anything involved with finance would bitch about it and refuse to function, so I had no other option but stock firmwares.

  • Yes, I suppose given equal input (model, keyword, seed, etc.) two Stable Diffusion installs should output same images; what I am curious about is whether the hardware configuration (e.g. gpu manufacturers) could result in traceable variations. As abuse of this tech gains prominence, tracing back the producer of a certain synthetic media by the specific hardware combination could become a thing.

  • I get the context, but in case of neighborhoods (and internet communities) the quality of people residing is also important. I'd rather have quiet neighbors saying hello instead of some drug peddlers blasting loud music every night.

  • What? Can't you afford to drink a Fruitty Pumpkin Spice Kombucha Latte Macchiato Frapuccino with Extra Cream and Sprinkled Caramelized Candybites™ at your local $overpricedHipsterFranchise everyday?

  • The industry needs to appreciate QA and optimization more than ever. I don't feel like getting the latest GPU for a couple of rushed and overpriced digital entertainment softwares, the same say I don't feel like getting the newest iphone every year because of social pressure.

    • 30 mb of JS for 1 kb of text.
    • Can't zoom or scroll freely without JS interfering.
    • Double-click on a word and it calls another script for 'assistance' instead of selecting the word.
    • Right-click is disabled or bring their own 'menu' that does nothing.
  • As OP said, Apple can open up the iMessage protocol and still mark the non-iMessage mesagges inside their app as they used to. Apple didn't create the green/bubble class divide, but they sure are enjoying the ride and can claim they're innocent (since it's technically the users, not the company discriminating).

Anyways, I'm all for open protocols and cross-platform compatibility. If some iUsers decide to ghost me because my Signal message appears in a different color, then screw them. Can I make them purple or orange?

  • Catering to the corporate is how Microsoft gets their future customers. Office workers learn to function in MS ecosystem to pay the bills. When they are home, they dont want to struggle to make things work - they already know windows and office, so that will be the path of least resistance.

  • Chromebooks/ChromeOS have been very helpful in that regard. Grandparents that don't do anything beyond a web browser? I replaced the struggling windows partition with a CloudReady install. Zero complaints. Google account syncing also takes care of backups, so no worries on that either.

Now I am worried about Chromiun's near monopoly and how Firefox barely manages to make a dent in browser surveys, but I am not going to preach about web browsers and listen to their complaints every time a website coded by an unpaid intern refuses to do something properly on this 'Mozarella Foxfire' thing. I can afford to do that in my own time. They shouldn't have to.
