  • What's slowing down Linux adoption?

Is it the monopoly Microsoft has on all PC hardware and strong relationships it has with desktop software partners that make leaving windows near impossible?

No, it must be the users.

  • For real this guy's entire empire is built on stiffing everyone and anyone.

  • I wear it out. Screaming, kicking, blasting "we're in this together now" by NIN cranked up to 11. Physical exhaustion will bring with it its own form of revelation.

    A good workout helps.

  • Linus Torvalds himself also said this and basically positied he thinks Valve will be the company that brings us to a working desktop ecosystem by deciding on a universal desktop app packaging format.

I saw a video recently about the history of x11 development from retro bytes on YouTube and it is pretty much exemplary of the nature of open source development. I think I understand this whole conundrum a bit better.

  • I just want to drop this here

Jorge Castro has been the head of this project and I am excited by his vision. Bluefin aims to be the immutable desktop distro with the most sane defaults that also supports Nvidia.

    Give it a whirl!

  • I am addicted to this feeling of revelation. There is nothing like it. Now I collect old networking equipment and try to get it to work in ways I never thought it could to get my fix.

  • You know back in the day they used to sell Linux distributions on the shelf at software stores. I remember seeing a boxed copy of mandriva next to windows. Home computing used to be a hobby for some but that means there was commercial support at some point.

I do think that home users of "Linux" will need a commercial alternative that supports all their apps. ChromeOS looks like the current best alternative. If you can get people into chrome books, you're one step closer to getting them onto Linux.

  • I also feel like a lot of those people are there just to be pricks. I don't think they really know much at all so their input was unwarranted in the first place.

The arch wiki is a very good resource and I use it for all Linux distros. But like most repositories of its kind, it gives you the how and not the why.

That's what most people want from another person, they ask "how" but I think they mean "why".

  • Pakleds are an alien race from star trek. They're known for tricking smarter people into helping them only so they can take advantage of them, ensnare them, and then dominate them. They also on average have low IQ (in universe).

  • I've seen people argue that looter shooters were the hot game when this was designed but in the time it took to make this game they went out of style and now it just seems tired and hack because it's seven years too late.

I don't know if I buy that argument though...

  • Office jobs are BS in the internet era. You go to work to look at a screen. You come home to look at a screen. You go to bed, you look at a screen.

Your bosses are taking calls from their hot tubs while smoking big spliffs and making fun of you for not being as smart as them. They figured it out and they'll be retiring any day now. I'm not even being facetious, I know these people. They're the Pakleds of the human race.

These games do not get enough shame from their consumers to make any changes but money talks.

  • Are Diablo 3 server emus any good? I haven't looked in a long while but now I'm intrigued.

  • I really can't wait to see the Matt McMuscles "Wha' Happun'??" Episode about this game.

I just don't want to think this mess anymore. Please Matt, save me from the thinky pain!
