  • I doubt that, given that NFL players are generally expected to wear the same helmet all season (unless it's damaged or too old). It's no longer a rule, but it was a rule from 2013 to 2021.

A player's helmets must be the same model under the new rules, so you couldn't even have 1 normal helmet and 1 deformable helmet. I think that the ability to wear the Guardian Cap over top of a normal helmet is one of the main selling points for that reason.

Deformable helmets would be a great idea to try, though. I just don't think it would be timely. Maybe in 30 years?

  • While I understand your concern because I knew someone who was like that personally, that person's ability and desire to constantly respond caused them a significant bit of distress, often replying to people with something like, "please stop replying because I feel compelled to say something in response."

Maybe shutting a user up every now and then would be a net positive.

  • Damn, I really appreciate that. It's hard to deal with, so it makes sense that the main advice is getting used to it. I take meds but I also don't have a lot of income right now (kind of due to this problem but also other personal reasons) so I've been rationing and I think that was a mistake. My main symptom is intrusive thoughts so dissociation helped manage that at first but now it's like, really debilitating lol.

Anyway, thanks to you and your roommate; I think other people will probably also find your comment at least somewhat helpful.

  • "Well, you see, 'surge pricing' means raising prices during the most high-traffic times. Here at Kroger, we pride ourselves in raising prices slightly before and after the peak times, and that's technically not surge pricing! It's just dynamic pricing with surge characteristics."

  • What's the benefit to the customer here? Idk if a store where I live started doing this, I would just stop going there. I know that can be difficult with the grocery monopolies in a lot of places, but I would try my hardest.

I think facial recognition should be banned outright because it's highly inaccurate, racially biased, and used improperly by law enforcement. But in cases like this, even just a ban for all non-law enforcement applications would be really helpful. People don't benefit from this! Just corporations, and barely so.

In my work as a government contractor, I witnessed the use of facial recognition for access control (getting into certain parts of a building) in exactly 1 building (of several dozens) and it was so completely unnecessary that I was left wondering what kind of nepotism or budget surplus lead to the implementation of such a lame security tool.

  • Honestly, they don't even look that weird. Slow adoption is likely just due to the culture of machismo in sports, because the choice to wear it or not is up to each player and they all rib each other for being soft or a pussy all the fucking time.

Even getting MLB catchers to start wearing gloves was like pulling teeth back in the day.

  • Just based on the house price to rent ratio (the ratio of house prices to the annual cost of rent), NYC is about 38. Here is an infographic of the house price to rent ratio of various Canadian cities:

As you can see, the cost of housing in NYC is comparable to Toronto and Victoria. Our mortgages don't have fixed rates though, so every 5 years your mortgage rate goes up (theoretically it could go down, but it generally doesn't). It makes buying a house a lot more risky even if you can afford it.

  • Canadian here. I hope you have tens of thousands of dollars and several years to burn, because it's very expensive and time-consuming. Also, have fun with one of the worst housing crises in the world. Some visual data can be found here.
