  • So do you use some kind of payment app that does a conversion or do you have to manually convert from Monero to fiat currency?

Most retailers don't accept crypto at the point of purchase so I'm curious as to how this would be convenient enough to use regularly.

  • I don't really carry one anymore, but the one I have at my desk has Ventoy and LMDE on it for when I need to mess with something requiring my system to be down or modify my OS partition. I don't really do much on other PCs except when I have to help my wife with something.

When I was working at my last job I carried 2-3 with a ton of database backups and proprietary software and firmware files for clients' automation systems. Kinda don't miss it at all, but it sure made me feel important, lol.

  • I bought BioFreaks for PS1 because it looked fun. I knew it would be janky and have weird physics, but it's also got a weird dystopian story too!

To be fair, I was 8 or 9 at the time, but it's an entertaining piece of shit, like Pitball (also for PS1).

  • Yeah, NBA League Pass doesn't work on Linux either, they partnered with Microsoft to implement their new DRM and made the decision not to support Linux. I assume this is also the case here.

The only way to get around it is to use a virtual machine, which is silly.

  • The FCC said it "voted to end exorbitant phone and video call rates that have burdened incarcerated people and their families for decades. Under the new rules, the cost of a 15-minute phone call will drop to $0.90 from as much as $11.35 in large jails and, in small jails, to $1.35 from $12.10."

The new rules are expected to take effect in January 2025 for all prisons and for jails with at least 1,000 incarcerated people. The rate caps would take effect in smaller jails in April 2025.

If this doesn't get reversed somehow, this is going to be such a monumental, positive change for so many families. It's nice to read about a win sometimes.

  • Yeah, it's hard to explain in the US and Canada, where there are only two major parties, that they don't represent two ends of a political spectrum. They're just two dominant parties that have different ideas; on a lot of things, they even agree and don't hide it.

I wish we, as kids in society, had learned more about specific right-wing and left-wing policies in history and civics so that this distinction could be made more clear. Or at least that we were taught what liberalism is and what neoliberalism is and how they're different.

But we didn't and weren't, so when people think "liberal" they think "left," and we're all worse off for it.

  • It's worth it. Make sure you have everything you need, including tools, utensils, and dishes, before you start though. It comes together very fast and you will not have a spare second to go grab something.

Add a dash of cayenne if the recipe doesn't include it, otherwise I find the creaminess coats the palate too much and makes it taste too samey.

  • Well, then I guess everyone involved got what they wanted. Are you upset because things didn't go the way they were never going to go? It was obvious from the outset that he would never step foot in prison even outside of this conspiracy to withhold evidence.

  • "We can't possibly determine the truth in this circumstance because officers of the court and the law both conspired to establish a pre-determined outcome by misusing their authority and resources, so we'll ensure that you can't be charged again."

Maybe cops and lawyers should play by the rules if they want the law to put people in prison.

  • there is a cap at $5000/MwH

It's MWh (megawatt hours). That's only for wholesale electricity, which is available to retail electrical providers, not consumers. So your utility company can charge you whatever they want, but their price is capped. Funny how that works.

More info about the cap specifically available here. (PDF)

  • Hm, I guess I have seen that, but never considered that it could be a high-grossing day. My wife's family would burn us in effigy if we tried to suggest leaving the house during the day so I've never really thought of it much.

If we don't come to Christmas it's as though we've killed the very concept of happiness. We'd never hear the end of it if they found out we went to a movie instead.

  • They're open on Boxing Day, as stated in the post. It's only usually businesses run by people that don't celebrate Christmas that are open (like Chinese restaurants, and that one gas station run by a Pakistani family in my old rural town that saved my hide in 2012 by being open after I forgot to get gas on Christmas Eve).
