  • To escape this person who I was born as, and who they've become. To find some peace, some tranquility, and devote my life to that. To feel something good without the depression radiating from the background.

  • I love bookwyrm, but it doesn't have this functionality.

  • Facebook makes money off the advertising people see as they read the news feeds. Canada's saying they must share some of that with the companies they're using the content of.

The act is not any linking of news content, but of aggregation, ranking, or an index of news content, or the distribution of the news or any portion thereof. So, specifically tailoring news for users, it's expected that the companies who are profiting from that tailoring of the news kick-back a portion of the profits to the outlets who need to be paid to create it in the first place.

  • The only reason it's so much more expensive than animal-based meats is because of the amount of subsidies the meat industry gets. Actually, now that I think about it, all of the major pillars of the US agricultural industry, whether it be meat, corn, or dairy, are upheld by subsidies.

  • It really depends on the particular developer right? Like, CDPR for example, whose parent company owns gog.com, pays its employees based on contractual obligation and initial sales. Beyond that, however, all money gets fed into the publisher and into the pockets of executives. Executives don't make games. Executives do next to nothing and make nothing for it. I personally consider it patently unethical to support parasites like that.

  • Any instance in which I'm purchasing through a publisher or producer. Wherein I have no reasonable belief that my money is actually going to the people who developed the work.

  • Steve Jobs was a great enough artist that he even stole the quote holy shit 🤯

  • BlueSky has algorithms. Both platforms have their place, but BlueSky is definitely more in the interests of people who like modern web design.

  • I thought the same thing but it actually does have a limited free plan. Seems like, similar to BW, it restricts 2FA behind the pass, but also with the pass you get unlimited hide-my-email aliases, multiple vaults to organize in (I don't know what this means), and eventually autofill credit cards.

This is quite a bit more expensive than BW's paid plan though. Not sure what all differences it has to BW otherwise.

  • If favouring humans to arbitrary imaginary lines in the ground is crazy, I guess I'm completely unhinged. I have no intention of conceding that the murder of over 700 people was somehow ethical, and anyone who thinks it was is a sort of crazy I'd never be able to be.

  • Hopefully by 2028 Trump dies so it's not Trump and his massive-ass base vs the newcomer Dem candidate.

  • On the flipside, the belief that someone with a formal education is somehow beneath you or brainwashed for it.

  • If you check their post history, firebreathingbunny appears to be here just to spew fake garbage. ^^

  • #1 No, this "invasion" is what we call "asylum"

#2 Even if it weren't a legal right under international law (which it is), murder is bad, borders are bad, and depicting this as "invasion" tells me all I need to know about you.

  • The right to seek refuge is protected by international law.

  • This will go nowhere, however if it were to try to go somewhere, Mods would need to enter legally binding agreements to abide by union rules.

That meaning, if the union votes to private your stuff, to shut down scripts, etc, you can be held liable to some extent or another.

Right now, these protests are largely people pussyfooting, jumping in, and when the water gets a little hot, screaming "oh no" and hopping out. This cannot happen if you want to effectively collectively bargain. Scabs cannot be amongst those united. There can be no question on loyalties.

It's not gonna happen, but it'd be hella interesting if it did.

  • Ya, I don't have any personal interactions with him and am withholding real judgement without. Even his politics, it's hard for me to really condemn him when I don't even know the lens he's viewing things through. End of the day, I'm taking a best guess based on a few (3?) instances where he's ever been recorded saying something that's shit.

But also, even the worst tankie's better than the best right winger, any day.

  • I mean, dude's not CEO, he doesn't control the instances. He does own a very large instance, but I don't think it's even the most dominant instance post-redditting.

I disagree with his views, though I will admit to some sympathy on some aspects (not the genocide stuff), but ultimately, he's just a dude who makes this software. He doesn't own it, he doesn't have a monopoly on its control, and really, the entirety of the Fediverse could, if he went full Huff, say "fuck you" and defederate his instance. That's the power of a distributed service. Heck, your own instance, kbinsocial, could lemmyml at any time and it'd have little impact overall.

Even were I to concede to him being "Huffman-like" (which I do not agree with), I don't think he's actually relevant enough in the real-world usage of the software to care about as far as that goes.
