  • Arguing that the dictionary is correct and should be cited as the arbiture of language ignores that language is a fluid, evolving structure. Dictionaries are guides to help seek understanding and seeking to be understood. They're not law by which we must abide.

  • Finna deplatform you right now with the block button, babes 💞

  • Ya, "Free Speech" as written in the constitution only covers congressional laws.

  • It's not a view. It's written into our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and empowered by our constitution.

  • I agree that such games couldn't have been made by smaller teams. I love BOTW/TOTK, don't get me wrong. They're among my favorite games of all time.

Is it worth it though? Is the prospect of games like these worth the necessary instability, the restriction to creativity that they bring? I don't believe so. Even if we lived in a world where crunch was illegal, that was enforceable, and it was perfectly enforced on a systemic level, I don't think that our economic system is one where such games can be good for the artistic medium that is video games.

  • Because I'd rather it be ruined quickly by low quality than ruined over the course of 3 years by a shit release schedule. I'm extremely pessimistic of the anime at this point because of how much they fucked up its ending by calling it Final Season and continuing to push "Final" more and more over 3 years.

At least PN2 was just a few episodes before I realized "oh I don't really care about this", rather than my disdain being pulled out of me by whatever idiot decided this was the way.

  • How do they compare to modern games in terms of entertainment?

I'd comfortably argue that Tetris is amongst the best games ever made.

  • but also the devs (even if only in scraps)

If you're buying games that are more than 3 months old, they do not. Bonuses are given for metacritic scores and launch quarter sales. They're never given royalties.

there’s not a whole lot of options outside of “only buy indie games” to both support developers and avoid filling the pockets of execs and investors.

What's wrong with telling people to buy indie games and pirate anything made at the directive of blood-sucking vampires?

Remember when games were just the program on the disk and you didn’t need keys and an online connection to activate your copy?

Remember when games were just some free software on Usenet that someone made because they thought it'd be cool, and shared because they were proud of it?

  • You're an asshole for paying industry execs to be vampires after you see they've managed to narrowly evade the enshittification of their studio.

  • would they have called themselves gamers?

    I would

a certain minimum degree of investment in a hobby/culture is required before you can name yourself as a participant

The particular games you choose isn't really relevant to this though. If you have 600 hours in Spider Solitaire, and you think it's important enough to you that you'll self identify as a "gamer", who am I to be a keeper of the gates?

  • No game project should be AAA. It's anti-creative, as developers must turn their game into something that appeals to the broadest audience, and it's unstable, as companies bet their entire next 3 years of revenue on a single title. I'd much rather everything become B or C-tier developments. The great games that come from this development style simply are not worth it for the damage they do to the medium.

  • I literally would have preferred it to be a Promised Neverland Season 2 than this release schedule.

  • Stripped of executable code. IIRC the issue in particular was that sidebars observed HTML and you could put an iframe with potentially malicious code into them.

  • I think the biggest mistake was naming it Final Season to be honest

This is it. They should not have named it final season. Once they named it final season, that was an expectation set, and they keep on changing the expectation in the most annoying way. I would have preferred them cram everything into a terrible final season than edging us like this for 3 years.

  • I dropped the series at ep 11 of final season when I learned it was gonna have a final season part 2. Maybe in a few years I'll go back and finish it off, but fuck, this release schedule has really soured me on the series.

  • Now with outbound communications nearly completely cut off, how often will we get updates on what's happening on the ground? On the crimes against humanity Israel's committing?

I hope for the best, I really do, but I feel so helpless. I've already contacted my representatives and told them they need to do their part or I'll be rescinding my support. I'm vocal within my community as well. But beyond that, there's so little I can do but bear witness to what is happening.

  • I really liked the little idol scene with Filo. I'd love to see more of that between seasons.
