  • I'm glad he got off on the first two charges, but his lawyer argues that the third charge, "shooting into an occupied dwelling" shouldn't be applicable since it was deemed self defence. The judge will be hearing arguments for this next month.^[https://newsio.com/2023/09/29/alan-colie-man-who-shot-youtube-prankster-at-virginia-shopping-centre-acquitted/]

Also, dude's now spent 6 months in jail, only to be found not guilty of at least 2/3rds of the charges. Is there any compensation he'll get for those missing months of his life? He's already been punished, and yet he's still presumed innocent.

  • Better than you, but that's a low bar to set for myself.

Please educate me, who are my 5 alts? Because to my knowledge there's only @ram@lemmy.ca, @ram@retrolemmy.com, and @rammy@lemmy.ml. You must think I have an awful lot of time on my hands to have other fully active accounts on here just to bully you specifically.

  • You first.

  • If you check my history, or my history @ram@lemmy.ca, you'll see I'm very much nobody's alt. I am a bully though. Malicious and harmful people like those who support the GOP and other fascist groups should be bullied and removed from public social life.

  • Delete your account.

  • Pot addiction is a very real thing, and people downplay it a ton. Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% for the complete freedom to access and use pot for whatever reason you wish, just as I am for other drugs like heroine, alcohol, and cocaine. But there are unhealthy habits you can develop that do negatively impact your life if you use it unrelentingly.

Pot addiction isn't typically as directly harmful as other drugs. Pot itself isn't toxic, which helps, and most of its impacts on mood, for those who enjoy it, are relaxing effects, but many people develop unhealthy dependency on pot, and even can have withdrawal symptoms from going without.

I downvoted your comment simply because it feels like you're downplaying what this person feels their relationship with pot is like. I agree with the sentiment across this thread. It's fine to smoke pot, and to do so freely, but I think we also need to acknowledge that there is irresponsible, dependant, and dangerous habits we can experience with any addictive substance, be it pot, alcohol, caffeine, food.

  • Yup, now everybody's a dangerous pot addict and the world's a communism.

  • Ah is that so? My mistake then.

  • Oh I appreciate the concern. I've been on Lemmy since December, but I've done some instance hopping which is why my current account's just a few days old.

But yes, I do appreciate the concern and consideration!

  • Mastodon already has that. You can export and import posts^[@vidarh@lemmy.world clarified below that you can only import lists, bookmarks, blocks, and mutes. Not posts.] in the settings, and under Account Settings, you can move to a different account so people are redirected to your new profile.

My screenshot doesn't show import as an option because I migrated away from this Mastodon account to Firefish.

  • Just this month a link was made between $35 million in crypto being stolen and the 150 victims being LastPass users.

In 2022 Lastpass was compromised through a developer's laptop and had customer data like emails, names, addresses, partial credit cards, website urls, and most importantly vaults stolen last year, and given they're closed source, have no independent audits, and don't release white papers, we have no idea how good their encryption schemes actually are nor if they have any obvious vulnerabilities.

In 2021, users were warned their master passwords were compromised.

In 2020 they had an issue with the browser extension not using the Windows Data Protection API and just saving the master password to a local file.

What will 2024 bring for LastPass? They were hacked, and there's no reason to think they won't see more breaches of confidential customer information and even passwords in the future. This is a repeated pattern, and I'd better trust a post-it-note on my monitor for security than LastPass at this point.

  • "Provider" is the best alternative to "instance" I've seen. I'm down with provider.

  • Yes please, let's take down all the nazi commemorations in the country. All the racists. All the people who lived part of their lives trying to suppress and harm others.

Frankly, that'd probably get rid of every statue in the country except Terry Fox.

  • It’s only valid in private venues. We don’t know when were being recorded now and have not really known for decades. This isn’t going to change anything on that front.

Ya, and I think that's something that should change. I should have the right to, within reason, be able to know I'm being recorded at any time.
