  • It’s a link aggregator that finds an available file to stream to you from servers that already have the full file, which may or may not have been assembled from a legitimate source or torrent.

That's literally the argument they use for torrents as well. They don't host any material, just point to it. And they are still being taken down left and right for breaking some law or another in regards to that.

  • You have to remember that the people promoting this sort of thing never in a million years think it would affect themselves or their loved ones. They are 100% convinced it will be used to "punish" people, just not themselves.

You see it literally every time republicans implement things like abortion bans, detainment camps, child labor etc. And republicans start crying in the media and say stupid shit like "He's not hurting the right ones"....

  • So this is why google is actually seeing some support in their new proposal.

Who needs encryption when you have your Governement Issued and Officially Licensed and DRM locked browser that forces you to watch ads between every click or you can't use the online-only services.

  • At this point it has to be intentional from these companies.

Because some basic data analysis should show that while the majority of content are comments and shorter posts made from mobile devices, but posts with self-created media beyond meme-templates, longer text posts, etc. tend to be more from computers. And more extensive moderation also often comes from desktop.

  • The people putting forth these suggestions never really leave their airconditioned place of work, cars, homes, and rarely hotels or vacation homes. They are usually unaffected by floods, tornadoes, storms, fires, etc.

And republicans live by the creed that if it's not directly impacting themselves it is either not real, or if it is, it's not that serious.

  • While true that they're not polluting for fun, many corporations will try to avoid any anti-pollution measure that will lose them money. To the point where they spend billions of dollars every year to lobby governements, enviromental protection organizations, and drag out regulations with lawsuits. Because in the long run it's usually worth it for them to pollute, as long as the investors see enough profits in the short term.

  • I think they're trying to implement a sort of "smart prediction" thing, where it assumes that if you go back the link you clicked wasn't relevant. And so it tries to remove closely related results. Which works the opposite if you get two results from the same page and you click the wrong one. Which makes looking up technical or programming related issues a nightmare.

  • With the TL;DR being: Google/Alphabet wants to more easily block non-chrome browsers ability to use their services, and prevent the use of adblocking.

Which also means that many people using accessability tools will be unable to access them. And they are trying to get Firefox to implement it as well, so they don't take all the blame when shit hits the fan and they start getting multi-billion dollar monopoly fines from the EU.

  • After some quick reading, a big thing is that you want an EV with a cooled and heated battery if you live in areas that see snow. And if you live in a warm area you'll want a battery pack that is actively cooled, as overheating will also cause poor performance, and can become damaged if they get hot enough.

According to a South Korean fine Tesla was given, their cars can apparently drop in range by about 50% if the temperature is around -15C(5F), compared to 20C(68F). With many other EVs also dropping by up to 40% because of battery temperature.

    https://www.reuters.com/markets/commodities/south-korea-fines-tesla-22-mln-exaggerating-driving-range-evs-2023-01-03/

  • They were already fined in South Korea in January, for lying about the range(it was only $2.2m, but it shows that there are regulations and ramifications).

And it looks like there is evidence of them intentionally making their "remaining distance" softawre lie, and more. So it wouldn't surprise me if the EU is getting involved, which means there might be much bigger fines coming.

  • A quick search shows he was high on "flakka", tried to ram the outermost fence and barely missing an officer. He then tried to climb the fence, got stuck in the razorwire. He ended up spitting on officers and resisting arrest, and was in the end charged with: "aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer, three counts of felony criminal mischief, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and driving under the influence".

He was held without bail and probably saw time(It happened in 2015 and there are no followup articles and I can't see the case, but he was arrested in 2021 and 2022 according to some court filings so he's still doing stupid things).

    Also: They changed the picture.

  • That's because they all think they are the special individual that will be given special treatment and that all the bad things will happen to groups they don't like.

    Because they are stupid.

That's why we got the famous direct quote: "He's not hurting the right ones".

  • Here's what seems like a major contributor:

    With these sources:

Some the things in the post seem to be from the book "Celtic Smiths and Satirists: Partners in Sorcery" by M. Randolph

Although I think the "they weren't allow to marry" was more that they became hated for abusing their power, so it was more likely a "they shouldn't be allowed to be happy" type of deal. But I didn't read enough to check that out fully.

  • Musk wasn't kicked out over the name though, well not just the name.

The board removed him as CEO because Thiel literally quit the company. Since Musk demanded he rewrite Confinity from unix to windows(since the x.com backend and it's stupid e-mail based banking was made for windows and Musk doesn't understand unix/linux...(that's why he doesn't know about x.org for instance.)).

Confinitys better method and code-base was basically what Musk bought when they "merged" the companies. And everyone else on the board knew that PayPal wouldn't get anywhere if they did what Musk said. So they had "secret" board meeting and replaced Musk with Thiel, and the rest of PayPal is history.
